1. I recently had a blood panel done on my senior greyhound, Romeo. His AST value was 283 versus normal range of 15-66 and a CPK of 9196 versus normal range of 59-895. Wea are treating with an antibiotic, as there was elevated levels of bateria in the urine, and plan on retesting. From what I have read and been told elevated AST indicates either muscle damage or liver damage. His ALT value was 59 vs normal 12-118. Please let me know your thoughts. Mrs. Woolfy
2. Dear GT family, Thank-you so much for your prayers, kind words, and expressions of sympathy. I just looked on the site this AM to inform you of his passing, and was deeply moved by what I saw. Richard went to be with the Lord on September 11, 2010. He died in his sleep with me at his side and his beloved greyhounds asleep in their beds close by. He died in peace after a perfect vacation. Please see link below for obituary and arrangements, as well as on line guest book.http://baue.com/_mgxroot/page_11059.php Now he is with Peek-A-Boo, D.O.G., and Tuf, who predeceased him. I see that a "platter night" is planned. :f_pink

Two Years

This year will be two years since we lost our first two grey's and there isn't a day goes by I don't think of them. We lost both of them 38 days from each other that was a shock. D.O.G & Peek-A-Boo.
5. We've been working on trying to control or get rid of yeast infections in one of grey's. Have tried Panofite and Triz Ultra Plus Keto ear drops but it's not working. The vet says try to flush the ear's and if that doesn't work try allergy tests. Has anyone gone thought this and what were the results, and what did you do to get it under control or get rid of it. 6. Julie weighed 63 when we got her, went up to 67, and now weighs 62. We feed her 3 1/2 cups a day of EN. Not sure how many calories. During the week she goes for 2-3 walks a day on weekend 3-4 walks a day. Also she goes outside and occasionally likes to run. She now has been on ear drops for her yeast infection for 9 days and we noticed she does not drink as much water and has not urinated in the house. Could that be coincidence or related?
7. We had her blood test done and that was normal. Also had urine checked that was normal too. How did your vet know to check for Cushings Disease? Once it was diagnosed how was it treated? Once it was treated did the symptoms go away? How is a test for Cushing's Disease done? Could Julie's problen be diet related? We have only had Julie for 1 year. When we first got her we had to treat her for hook worms and they were gone. Then Purina switched Proplan to shreaded blend and she started to have diarehea. Same thing happend to our other grey and we switched both to Nutro, but that did not solve Julie's problem. Then our vet put her on Purina EN diet and B12 supplement, after treateing her with antibiotics. That helped to firm up her stools and we do not have a problem there.
8. We have an unusal grey that is much different than the other 4 that we had. This is the first one we had, that always wants to eat and it is diffcult to put weight on her. The vet doesn't know what's going on as all her test come back as normal. Went to out group's reunion today and the only place she wanted to go was where they prepared the food. She would then follow the people to their table and beg for food. Then when we wanted to leave, she didn't, we almost had to drag her. She just stood there like a statue. The statuing is another issue. At times when walking she'll just stop middle of the road or whereever and just stand there like she just checked out of life. Her eye's aren't glazed over and she seems alert. We'll have to coax her or give a little tug on her lead and she'll snap out of it. Could this be a medical issue?
9. Hello All, Recently our Greyhound, Julie, started to urinate in the house. She is 5 years old and we have had her for 1 year. We noticed that she will drink a lot of water in the late afternoon/early evening. This started about 4 weeks ago. We have taken her to vet and are waiting for results of urine analysis. There does not appear to be a pattern to this behvaior. We also do not leave her for long periods of time. Has anyone had this problem before? If so what was it? What was done to fix it? Look forward to your reply. Mrs. Woolfy

11. Our new girl Julie who we only had for 10 months was diagnosed with small intestinal disease yesterday. We sent blood work to Texas A & M. Hoping someone here has gone through this to share what we might except in the weeks and months to follow. Our vet at this point is going to talk to the doctor at Texas A & M for the course of action. But it's been mentioned B 12 injections and biopsy to see how far it's gone or if cancer. We just don't know what to except any help would be appreciated. Woolfy
12. We got Julie in August of 08 and we noticed something strange about her on walks. She would just stop and stare in space it would last for about 5 minutes and then she would be normal. As time went by it would be less frequent. But this week I let her out to potty she did a few laps and when she came back both rear legs were spasming. Took her to the vet and he thinks she was having a form of seizure because of the staring and the legs spasm's. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Woolfy

D.o.g.

D.O.G. – Our Beloved Greyhound 3/6/96 – 7/28/08 D.O.G. was our first greyhound. After being petless for one year the desire to have a dog in our lives grew. Richard wanted a greyhound, but I was not sure. Then we met Sasha and Sheba, and I fell in love with the breed. We read about greyhounds, filled out the paperwork, and adoption day arrived. We went and looked at several greyhounds in their crates. I stuck my finger in each one. D.O.G., aka Notoria, licked my finger. We took her out, walked her around, she did the big "suck up", and we chose her. (Or did she choose us?) What struck us about her were her dreamy eyes, her alertness, and her intelligence. We brought her home and found out she was very timid, eating one morsel of food at a time. Our greyt journey had begun. During those first few months, we started bonding with D.O.G. wanting to make her happy, just as she wanted to please us. We noticed that she loved to be around other greyhounds, and 5 months later got Peek-A-Boo. D.O.G.'s tail did not stop wagging. She was so happy. While moving from PA to MO, we spent the night in a hotel. A first for our girls. They loved it. They were very proud walking around the hotel like they owned the place. After settling in our new home in MO, we decided to try fostering and failed and that was when Tuf was added to our greyhound family. D.O.G. loved Tuf. They were always together, whether it was on the couch with "butt to butt" roaching, going for walks, or watching TV. They even went on a "date", when the gate was accidentally left open and they left our yard together. D.O.G. was very timid, but Tuf gave her self-confidence and she started to come out of her shell. D.O.G. loved stuffies. She grabbed one every morning to go outside, or when she was excited for her walk, or during her D.O.G. "play times". During her life D.O.G. endured a lot of pain, but always maintained a positive attitude. Before coming to us she had Alabama crud and endured daily-medicated baths. Then in December of 2002 she broke her main weight-bearing toe. Four surgeries later and with the help of Therapaw, acupuncture, Metacam, and Chinese herbs she was able to walk with a limb and minimal pain. We were able to continue to go for our walks. She loved chasing deer, bunnies, and squirrels with her grey and human family. She has been in over 20 states and has seen lots of critters. D.O.G. had very deep emotions. Although all her life she had a level of timidity, when she decided to show affection to us it was a special time of chatters, nibbles, which came from deep within her heart. She loved ice cream. When she ate it she would close her eyes and deeply enjoy the experience. She also loved "styrofoam night". When we would come home with steak in the Styrofoam box, D.O.G. would get so excited she would jump up to get her piece of steak. D.O.G. was a very caring and compassionate dog. She cared about the entire family. When Tuf collapsed in our kitchen, she followed Richard out to the van and watched, as Richard put him in the van and drove off. She waited by the door, until I was able to convince her to go to bed. After Tuf died, we were all sad, especially D.O.G. In December of 2005 D.O.G. got hind end weakness and again using a combination of eastern and western medicine we were able to maintain her quality of life. However during the past 2 ½ years, the length and frequency of our walks reduced and the time she spent sitting near us or under the shade of a tree increased. D.O.G. got to the point where she could no longer stand and we made the decision to put her down. As she was starting to go from this world to the next, we thought she heard Peek-A-Boo barking and encouraging her to cross the bridge. D.O.G. persevered and loved her life, and us, until the end. Now D.O.G. is pain free and with her friends, Tuf and Peek-A-Boo, running and playing together. We will never forget D.O.G. She touched our lives, our hearts and our souls.

Peek-a-boo

Tribute to Peek-A- Boo, Our Petit, Little Greyhound

8/22/98 – 6/20/08
[/font] After looking and visiting with several greyhounds, in our search for a grey friend for D.O.G., we all met Peek-A-Boo, Richard, D.O.G., and I. Little did we know at that first meeting that she would become our second fur kid. Peek-A-Boo was a petit, 48 pound, black brindle greyhound. At our initial meeting she jumped onto Richard's lap. Richard was concerned as Peek-A-Boo was a high energy dog, but I felt like she would be a good fit, and as time as proven she was the perfect fit in our home and in our hearts. Peek-A-Boo loved life and when she was excited it showed by her barking, her rising of her ears, her wagging tail, and her perky gait. When she would see a squirrel-Look Out!! Ears went straight up. She would go towards the squirrel, then start barking, at that point the squirrel ran away, On the many walks, hikes, and trips that we have been on she has chased Prairie Dogs in South Dakota, stood in awe of Bison and Elk, chased deer in Route 66 Park, caught a squirrel at Daniel Boone's home, run after seagulls at Dewey Beach, and has gone after bunnies, fox, chipmunks, and assorted birds, all done while on a lead held by her middle aged companions, us. We had so much fun on these excursions and learned to view God's creatures with greyhound eyes. When not out on our daily walks or special activities, Peek-A-boo was a lover of comfort. She was the pillow arranger par excellence. She had lots of special spots in our home depending on her emotional and physical needs whether it was lying in the sun on a cold winter's day, in her corner to be with us, but not with the other greys, or on a pile of pillows. Peek-a-boo knew what she wanted and sought it out. She was the ringleader getting us up in the morning, or focusing us on the "mission" of the trail. Another Peek-A-Boo hobby was shopping. She spent many hours strolling on the streets of St.. Charles looking for that dog-loving shopkeeper, who would invite her in for a sniff and a browse. Peek-A-Boo was a greyt greyhound ambassador. Her loving demeanor attracted people, her small size made little kids feel comfortable, and her name made them smile. People fell in love with Peek-A-Boo. Finally, Peek-A-Boo loved her family both human and canine. If one of us was gone for five minutes she kept a watchful eye as to where we went. She knew where we were and was sensitive to the environment, ready to protect as needed. Peek-A-Boo evolved. As the years turned her dark colored face to white she mellowed and she allowed herself to accept our love, just as she unconditionally loved us. She loved to cuddle and be cuddled. She became a big part of our hearts and minds. She trusted us without question. When the time came to let her go, it was tearful, but for her best. We were blessed to have Peek-A-Boo in our lives, just as we were a blessing to her. We will never forget her.
15. Blood tests are normal, and she eats okay but not like before. X-rays today showed as the vet said some dense area that the radiologist will have to look at to see what it is. In Jan. we had a melanoma removed on the right rear leg. Things might not look good here. Thanks everyone. Woolfy
16. Our 12 year girl grey in the past year has lost 10% of weight and loosing muscle mass in her rear end. So to speak she has lost her pepper. Was always up first thing in the morning and barking to get the other two up know no barking and just slow. Would rather lay around than go out for walks. In general the zip for enjoying the day is gone. Her blood work is normal. Going in for X-ray's today to see if anything is going on. Any idea's would be helpful. Woolfy
17. http://k-laserusa.com/ Has anyone tried this type of treatment for there greyhound. One of our kids has hind end weakness and were doing acupuncture and chiropractic but it seems were at the end of this treatment. Have heard good things about the K Laser treatment. Was wondering if anyone has tried this and what the results were on there greyhound. Woolfy
18. Always looking for new ways to help in the teeth department and bad breath. I ask our vet if you could use Listerine as a spray. And he said if you dilute it to a 8:1 ratio it should be all right. Has anyone tried this with there greyhounds? Sounds like it wouldn't hurt. Woolfy
19. Sorry to hear the news I hope this is all it is. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.p...;C=0&A=1518 Your in our thoughts. Woolfy
20. We had the same thing with one of ours she will be 12 this year . Behind the right rear knee. And it came back as Melanoma skin cancer. The lump was black in color. Big debate between oncologists and pathologist if it's cancer or not. Dr. Couto said as a GENERAL rule there not cancerous. Our holistic vet said the same thing and he would of left it in place and not of removed it. What color was her lump. Wish you all the best. Woolfy
21. Need some help here from anyone who had there grey diagnosed with Melanoma. We just found out yesterday that one of our kids has it. We found a lump on her right rear leg behind her knee. They got all it out and next week were going to have her lymph nodes checked to see if it got in there. The prognosis is guarded to fair from the report. If you could share your story on what all to except it would be helpful. Woolfy
