Absolutely agree. Loved Dempsey before but getting him through osteo, surgery, recovery, and now chemo has bonded us more than ever.

Me and Champ were always close but we were really close up until he passed. It is a special bond that is very strong.

Absolutely true - Hobbes and I are so close after all these months of extra care and attention to him. He feels like my shadow at times and when he doesn't have me in view he comes and looks for me (just so I'm nearby).

:nod I didn't realize how close I was to Turbo until we went through a weekend cancer scare. Worst weekend of my life. I think that illness (or the threat of illness) makes us realize how short our times with these guys really is.

I know what you mean. I miss Cricket so much it's hard to even think about her some days.

.....especially when you have multiple hounds who quietly wait their turn while the ill one is cared for.

When Dear was sick in December...my whole world focused on him. He was all I could think of...I was so thankful that Snowy who had a stroke in November had recovered so quickly. It wasn't until after Dear died in January that I noticed how well she was doing. I felt so bad about that. Then in February when BuyCut died...I made a promise to my heart that I would pay attention to what's going on around me. Now Snowy has had another stroke & everything points to her again.

The others patiently wait & then when its their turn they soak it up.

Oh yes. I know exactly what you mean. Even smaller issues, such the UTI Merlin had in January, and now his nail, and all the extra attention and care they have warranted, really seem to have brought us closer. He's also become more snuggly.

I have done nothing but cuddle and spoon with Logan all day today.

I know, I know, they are so sweet when they dont feel well. It's kinda bittersweet isnt it? They need us more, and they seem to look out more for us at the same time too. It's indescribable. But I know just what you mean. :grouphug

Oh, Henry :bighug

I can understand why you feel such a bond with your sweet boy.

During Winnie's fight with osteo, my love and admiration for her knew no bounds. I think she kept me strong with her courage and determination. The love I felt for her when I first met her as a foster just grew and deepened on so many levels, as we dealt with the monster together.

Hear, hear. Somehow in mind I think my dogs are going to be the longest-lived dogs ever, and then when you have to fight for every day - you realise just how precious they are, and how precious each day you spend with them can be.
