Miss Echo Needs Healing Thoughts

A week ago today, I put the kids out into the yard for their evening potty. Atlas rushed past Echo bumping her into the door frame. She hit on her side and her knee and then went outside limping a little. I gave her a good once over and it looks like she's bruised herself pretty good.

I've been giving her an aspirin every evening since to help with soreness.

So on the weekend (Sunday), she decided she felt better. She ran out of the solarium, slipped on the ice under the snow and was screaming that horrible GSoD. I ran outside in my sock feet and held her to calm her down. She got up from sitting, limped a bit, then ran up the stairs and into the house.

I made her take it slow again. No running, no playing. Last night, she got it in her head that she was going to try for a zoomie. Well, yet another bad idea. She took one leap, let out a yelp and then limped to the house. The muscle in her leg was spasming so I massaged it and she was fine again.

Even though in the house she acts fine, I know she's sore because she's taken to hiding in the crate. Normally, she never goes into the crate. But I know she's been feeling better the past few days because she's been able to do stairs without hesitation (when it first happened, she wouldn't do stairs for three days).

Her appetite is good. There's no swelling or pain to the touch on her leg. She doesn't limp, except at the above.

Miss Echo would appreciate some healing prayers and thoughts to get her through. She is one of those dogs who, despite being 10, loves her exercise. But I won't walk her until I know she's feeling 100% better so I know she's starting to feel the absence. :hope

Feel better sweetie. I have been leash walking the Flashman in the back yard because it is like an ice skating rink and I am so afraid he will try to do his zoomies and get hurt. Slow down Miss Echo...that is a lot of boo boo's! Feel better soon sweetie. :grouphug

Sounds like poor Echo has had a run of bad luck the last few days. Do you have her on any supplements? My puppers all take Fresh Factors and Joint Health from Springtime, and I really feel it helps with those that are getting a little older. :)linky

Greyhound angels at the bridge- Casey, Charlie, Maggie, Molly, Renie, Lucy & Teddy. Beagle angels Peanut and Charlie. And to all the 4 legged Bridge souls who have touched my heart, thank you. When a greyhound looks into you eyes it seems they touch your very soul.

She takes 1000mg of Glucosamine daily. I'll have to look into FF since she is getting up there. Until this happened, she's always been in perfect health and does fine on just the Glucosamine.

Take it easy speedy! Jack torqued his shoulder running on the slippery icy snowpack. It is finally better(?) I hope after a month!! but I shudder as he takes off to do zoomies. It's not as slippery now though.

Echo, take it easy, girlie girl!

Side note: is aspirin safe? I had been given to understand dogs really don't do aspirin well.

Googled for my own info, too, and this seems to summarize the general idea:

Aspirin (dogs only)

Aspirin is ok for dogs, but not for cats. To reduce stomach irritation, use buffered aspirin or give aspirin at mealtime. For chronic arthritis pain, we have prescription drugs that are much safer and far more effective. Giving your dog aspirin more often than twice a week is a probably a bad idea.

Use 5 grain (325 mg) aspirin tablets.

A 60 to 80 lb dog may be given one tablet twice a day (every 12 hours) or 1/2 tablet three times a day (every eight hours). A 30 to 40 lb dog gets half as much; a 15 to 20 lb dog a quarter as much. You should always consult with a vet before administering aspirin.

Here's more detailed info.

Yup, aspirin is safe if given with a meal. The concern is stomach irritation and we monitor her closely. I wish we had ascriptin or other meds that the US Gters talk about. She's only getting 1 a day right now (for the past three days), but if it persists through the weekend, I'm going to take her in to see our Vet to get something better for her. (Thanks :) )

Aww, poor Echo :grouphug

Maybe on leash for potty for a week or so to force her to let it heal? Hope she is feeling better and your heart has stopped racing from that GSOD
