5blackgreys Posted December 1, 2007 Share Posted December 1, 2007 Last night at sunset as I held him in my arms and said good-by, Cody, my 13 y/o Sheltie went to the bridge. I've had him since he was 8 weeks old and he was ever the Sheltie. He tried to herd everyone he met, nuzzled your hand until you would pet him and nuzzled again when you stopped. He tolerated the arrival of not 1 but 3 cats and never once went after any of them. He watched as the greyhounds came in to his house, learned to count when everyone was in the yard so he knew when it was safe to come in the back door, and taught anyone who would listen how to bark at whatever was outside the front window. I will miss seeing that little white face in the front window when I drive in the driveway, sandwiched between the big, black greyhounds. I will miss tossing him is biscuits and watching him catch them. I will miss watching him play with his stuffies, graciously letting go when they were grabbed by one of the greyhounds and I will miss listening to him talk to me as we went to bed at night. Last night all of your brothers and sister gathered in the family room with your other Mom and me, it was if they knew you were gone and were comforting us at your passing. They missed you as well. Run free my sweet baby boy, Lexie will be there with you and will look out for you and take you to run with all the hounds that are running free at the Bridge. Guest greymom1997 Posted December 7, 2007 Share Posted December 7, 2007 I too had a Sheltie... got him when I was 13... They are a very lovable breed. My Chauncy was my introduction to dogs... I loved the way he would round up everybody. Gently nipping at your heels to get you in a circle. I feel your pain.. I too miss that sweet little Sheltie face...
