Urgent Question For Adopter-

I don't know if they have ruled anything with the kidneys "in" or "out" at this point - I think the kidney issues are a new issue, as his liver has been the predominant problem up to now. Would kidney stones have showed up on a sonogram?

I've told Peter's vet and the Dr. at OSU that I wanted to move on this as fast as possible... we want to give the doctors time to look at everything without interruption, but the wait is torture...

The only solace we have is that he has been resting and seems comfortable...

OSU should get back to you fairly quickly.....sometime today

I would think you would see any stones if the equipment that was used was accurate.

The Sonographer (sp?) was not from this clinic, she is a specialist and is board certified for sonography (or whatever it's called), so I can only hope that she knows what she is doing...

They should be able to see kidney stones on the sonogram. They should also be able to see and estimate the amount of kidney damage. When Emma had a sonogram (a.k.a. ultrasound) for her kidneys, they were looking for changes in the size of the kidneys, kidney stones, other tumors in the surrounding area, etc.

I would suppose in your dog's case they also looked at the liver in the ultrasound.

Correct - they did look at his liver. The sonographer did not feel that his liver was enlarged, and there was no evidence of an obstruction of any sort, which is why surgery was ruled out...

I am so sorry that the answers aren't being found more quickly :grouphug

When Skittle became so ill and I was referred on to a 24 hour facility, they did xrays and a sonogram both. They were thinking maybe a blocked bile duct or stones, but nothing showed up other than a slightly enlarged liver :(

What was so puzzling is even though her bilirubin was off the charts, her labs on kidney function were good.

I'll never know what the answers were for her, but am praying for your boy so hard! :hope :hope :hope :hope :hope

That sounds exactly like Peter, except his bilirubin is coming down, and his kidney enzymes are going up... :(

:grouphug :grouphug :grouphug :grouphug

Unfortunately Skittle's bilirubin just kept climbing, despite IV fluids, antibiotics, liver meds, etc.

She was also too ill to even consider a liver biopsy :(

I wish I could do more than just pray for Peter :hope :hope :hope :hope :hope

Where we live, it hasn't rained for weeks.

Today when we woke up it was raining, and my wife said that even the sky was crying for Peter. I told her that maybe it was all the doggie angels crying for him.

Peter's kidneys failed this afternoon and he passed away this evening while we were visiting him.

When we were through saying our good-byes, the rain had stopped; and I thought to myself "Of course it stopped - now he is up there making all the doggie angels laugh with his too-long tongue, his silly run, and his curly tail!"

We love you Peter... so much! :cry1

So sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful boy and is now running free at the bridge with all the other angels.
