  1. Nothing pertinent to add about Beau, but i believe this is what took the great Downing's life.
  2. so glad for the third update. Best wishes and hugs for a fast, complication free recovery.
  3. Red has grand mals. He is on Phenobarb. Hasn't had one since august 2008. His seem to be food related, his being seafood/shrimp/food cooked with shrimp. As EmilyAnne wrote Henry also has food triggers. Did Tucker get anything different to eat or as a snack the day of the GrandMal? I too can attest that the ice pack on the lower back does shorten the length of the seizing. And the other could be something like absent seizures.
  4. asking and RPh at work: they are the same drug but the capsule would desolve quicker, thus the upset tummy. Ask the pharmacy if they have the tabs in stock.
  5. Rebecca, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Rats have such a short life they have to live it to the fullest and it sounds like Edna did. Nancy
  6. Meri, various foil types consumed by various dogs over the year and you know how many that has been, lol. all came out, well... sparkly. But none quite as large as that. If you notice any one in discomfort perhaps a vist to the e-vet is needed. (foil wrapper of two regular size nestles crunch bars, various stolen cupcake or muffin things) I would feed them as it would move things along. Then roll up the newspaper and whack ya self on the head.
  7. my one dog with dirty ears was the dog who's ears stood up. the others all flopped over properly.
  8. Sprite had several absessed teeth when she was 9-10yrs. eventually she had surgery and most of her teeth were removed. She did well during surgery and was like a new dog after she healed.
  9. When my dad had his second Open Heart surgery he donated some veins for a man who had been a heavy smoker and had none in good enough shape to use. He, the receiver, went another 10 years before he finally passed.
  10. Sprite AKA Buff's Comet, Sweetie, the Kitchen Dog Left us February 29, 2008 November 2007, her 14th birthday
  11. When i saw the title I said, no it can't be Emmy's Andy. damn
  12. I believe these others keppra, depakote, tegretol and other new ones aren't used in K9's due to their short half life and a K9's high metabolism the drug doesn't hang around the body long enough to do much good. And i know Keppra is expensive, depakote & tegretol, not so much. Oh and Felbatol I think causes something bad in some humans, i think some form of serious Anemia. It is still used because, again for some people, it works very well as an anti-epileptic. Depakote - Enteric coated tables, works in the intestines, but again does digest quicker than us and the enteric caoting delays it too long to dissolve. Depakene - gel capsule/let - dissolves in the stomach. It can be harsh on some sensitive stomachs. Diazepam - I believe is used more to break the cycle of the seizures, Via oral tabs, or rectal suppositories, even the rectal gel (but these are very expensive)
  13. Emily Anne, good timing of this thread. Red is going in three weeks to check his Pb level, while I don't think we are near the upper level it is something to think about. Last Seizure - 8/21
