  1. My first Greyhound, Murphy, had a cedar allergy. Just never again bought any thing cedar in relation to the dogs.
  2. Have them pull as many as they need to. Sprite did so much better without diseased teeth in her mouth, she lost most of them at 10 and made it to 15. The hole from the canine did take a while to heal, but that didn't stop her from chowing down. She also had a hole in septum which was discovered when they were flushing the hole once and it came out the other nostril, lol.
  3. My friend's Bernese was hit by a car and died today. They are devastated. Behr was such an outgoing and sweet natured dog. In flight during a run in their horse pasture this august: this is how he approched life, with shear joy and wild abandon. Godspeed sweet Behr.
  4. No advice here Pat, but we are thinking of you.
  5. today i finally moved her ashes from the wooden urn to the ceramic box I got from Sarah Snavely last year at Dewey.
  6. wow just realized today would have been Sprite's 16th whelpday.
  7. one of my dogs did terrible with frontline, yes i noticed the onset of her, as i call them, dumb seizures. I also stopped vaccinating (except for rabies - legal) her after she turned 12 and was a cancer survivor. She passed at 14. But my current seizure dog gets vaccinated and have notice no correlation to that and his seizures, not even related to his monthly heartworm med, sentinal.
  8. our vet likes us to fast the dogs too.
  9. Oh my gosh, that would have scared the crap out of me! What a way to wake up. Poor baby, he sounds like he has bad seizures like Saint. Saint sleeps in a crate because we have so many and I've had to protect him from my pack twice. I don't worry about that because there is only one other pup here, lottie and she heads for the hills when he goes into the state. When Sprite was here she would lift a head give him the evil eye, for disturbing her sleep, and go back to her nap. I just remember he did have another sz in July, this one during the day, he was napping on the settee and fell off. Most seem to come on while he is sleeping or dozing, sometimes it is like he wakes up and feels something because he tries to run, like the night he flew over me, another night I woke up and he was trying to launch himself over the foot board, (Yeah he sleep with me) I grabbed him and brought him back down to the bed. The other times he seemed to still be asleep when they take him. If he has them during the day he gets an icepack along his lower back. Afterward he gets a trip out, then a snack, usually a can of merrick, or mashed potatoes, something high calorie. Then a 5mg tab of diazepam, with two more at 8hr intervals to not let a cycle develop. I will give him an extra dose of his Pb then too. they are grand mals.
  10. I too have a seizure boy, while not seizure free he did go 9 months without one from last august to this may. Last august I started him on a supplement called Marin, it is for liver support. One tab a day. The this may at 1:15 am he flew over me on the bed and crashed head first into the wall collapsing to the floor seizing. He then had another 5 weeks later, another 4 weeks after that, and I upped his Marin to two tabs a day. none since the last in july. KBr will be considered at his annual in December.
  11. Oh Jordan. I am so sorry for your loss. Nancy
  12. Oh Tom. My heart goes out to you. Godspeed Jed.
  13. i got to meet him at RTW this year. He came for my presentation about the sires.
  14. so sorry. He was one of my favorites.
  15. Red is doing better. Still limping but he is ambulating and being quite brave about it, lol. He was glad for his rimadyl this evening though and is now sleeping on the bed. Though he has yet to cockroach. I will know things are good for him when he is upside down again. Nancy quick correction. LOL, I just glanced over and there are four paws in the air. SO yes, red is feeling better.
  16. He did not like being lifted into or out of the truck at all. and at 82 lbs i wasn't too thrilled either, lol. He was happy to be home and Lots gave him the big sniff over. He was even happier to get his supper and he is now crashed out on the couch.
  17. I had to take Red to the vet this morning then leave him for x-rays as I had to get back to work. He whacked his shoulder on the way into the house this morning. Totally self inflicted. He was the only one out, and the screen/storm door was propped open at least 3 feet. GSOD at 6:30 am. Not good. Right leg hurt. But he put weight on it and did manage to still get himself up on the couch. They will call later with results and when I can pick him up. ETA: vet suspects just a soft tissue injury, but x-rays are to be sure. Update 4:00 pm: Vet Technician called. x-rays are clear so it is a soft tissue injury. Whew. Other matters always a concern for us as we lost a dog to osteo who broker her leg just walking in the yard.
  18. gil, I'm so sorry for your loss. Run free sweet boy
  19. East Bridgewater deputy fire chief, father of three, described as 'quiet' -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Jessica Scarpati The Enterprise Posted Mar 25, 2009 @ 11:10 AM Last update Mar 25, 2009 @ 01:16 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EAST BRIDGEWATER — Deputy Fire Chief Robert Fairburn, 53, who was killed Wednesday morning around 9 a.m. when a car he was working on fell on him, was described as "quiet" and "a nice guy" by people who knew him at Town Hall. "We're all just devasated," said Town Clerk Marcia Weideneller. "It's unfair." According to town records, Fairburn, who was known as "Bob," was the husband of Ruth Fairburn, and had three children, two boys and a girl. Their ages were unknown. Weideneller said he was sworn in as deputy fire chief in 1997. He was described by colleagues as a lifelong resident of East Bridgewater who had been on the department for 32 years. At the fire station on Belmont Bedford Street, the flag is at half-staff and black cloth is draped over the front of the building. Shortly after noon, firefighters from Hanover, who were watching the station, said all East Bridgewater firefighters were in a "critical incident stress debriefing" off-site. Whitman and Bridgewater firefighters were also seen helping out at the station. The East Bridgewater fire chief called the death "tragic and sudden." "The East Bridgewater Fire Department regrets to announce the tragic and sudden loss of Deputy Fire Chief Robert D. Fairburn, who was tragically killed in a home accident," said Fire Chief Ryon P. Pratt in a written statement. "This department appreciates the support of our brother and sister firefighter and emergency agencies that are supporting this department in this difficult time." << I edited the street that the fire station is on>> ETA: he was a good man, he did a lot of good for the town not just with his work with the fire department.
