  1. He has been in MA since june of 2008, racing at Raynham/Taunton. Before that he was at the woodland in KS, where he raced for 4 months after coming from FLA. Doxy I can do. what strength and how long?
  2. The flashing from the tv was noticed by a friend and mentioned that. That is one of the things I was going to do, get a light that shines up for overall lighting. I had tried to call his name earlier and no real reaction. Batmom - My boy Red, had seizures, what were called Grand Mal, (sorry i don't remember what thay changed the name to) so they are nothing like that.
  3. update of sorts - lab work was fine as was the x-ray loooking for any abdominal issues. Video link added to post one.
  4. Harry is at the E-vet today. Late last night he had what I’ve called dumb seizure. Repetitive head motions, dazed and confused behavior. Sprite had these occasionally and they seemed to be the result of low blood sugar, we would give her some honey or some other sweet treat, and 20 minutes later she would be fine. That didn’t work on Harry. He was still ‘odd’ this morning. They will monitor him for the day. He could have ingested something, we found some small remnants of some hard black plastic on one of the dog beds yesterday afternoon. I got some of last nights’ behaviors on video on my phone, but too long to post as is. I will try to upload tonight to YouTube. The Vet did watch it and thought they could be focal seizures. I can handle that, Red was epileptic, not too scary a diagnosis for me. Is 4 too young or just the right age for that to manifest? Well, all for now, just wanted to share with others. ETA: I uploaded the video to youtube: sorry first 29 seconds are dark(lighting)
  5. middle of the night seizures were a lot more disconcerting than the daylight ones that's for sure Hope she is feeling better.
  6. This was Sprite's Tumor, located on her back, just off a bit from her shoulder points, had to really get good definition on a black dog. : This one is graphic post surgical shot. then a few days later:

Harry, recovering from the fact he was not allowed into the room while the bed was remade with brand new flannel sheets.

  12. Sprite, at age 10, had one on her back (in the area of all her vaccinations). She was operated on and they got clean margins and it never came back there. But... she did have reoccurances, just not in that area, she developed a tumor on her elbow, not a good place for clean margins. But we had it removed several times. While it did not cause her death, she lived to 15, i think it did effect her quality of life.
  13. I think also both RooRoo (maria) and FASave (Melissa) have had dogs with similar type of tumors, and found a local (RI) vet willing to try Dr. Couto's protocol for treatment, as he wanted to do something that did not involve whole scale chemo and radiation. You may have to search around for a vet willing to try something 'different'

  16. Honey also works as an after seizure snack, if they like it. The vet probably won't immediately put the dog on meds. Just one seizure is just one. She will have to have them fairly frequently before they will medicate. Phenobarb, while a great drug, can, in the long run, effect the liver. Did she have anything different to eat the day or hours before the seizure, anything odd happen? was she exposed to anything different? New food, new biscuts, new people, new anything?
  17. My girl Lottie was diagnosed, via lab work, Ultrasound pending, with insulinoma. she is getting 2 meals and three snacks a day and doing well. My vet has agreed to consult with them if they have any info. Who do we contact there? TIA Nancy 12/15/10 - Update: No contact achieved with OSU, but word is they don't have much on it and it is fairly rare and for some patients and vets hard to diagnose. So Tomorrow, Thursday, is her ultrasound. But many times the tumors don't show up, so they are assumed there and the surgical approach taken, and the tumor(s) found and removed. She is 11, but a good candidate for surgery, so we will try that approach. *** 12/16/10 - well doesn't this just sux. Ultrasound was done today. Not good. They saw nodules on her liver, but none on her pancreas, which is not unusual. So surgery is NOT an option. They could try to needle biopsy the liver nodules, then do some chemo. But not an option i will go for, I wouldn't put another dog through chemo again and the odds are not greateven if we did. So... we will manage with frequent meals and snacks, then eventually meds, prednisone and eventually Diazoxide. No one better bitch about my dog being fat. Only plus side, we know she is ill, unlike Red who refused breakfast, and was PTS before supper due to hemangio.
  18. Red too went quickly after never showing a sign f this except for refusing the first meal in his life. Spoil 'em rotten while he can still enjoy it.
