  1. FedEx.... # ____73_____ UPS...... #___97______ Wal-Mart. #__89_______ TOTAL.... #___259______
  2. Update? then again not update is good.
  3. One of mine used to do something like this. Someone suggested giving her honey, or something sweet during the phase. we tried it and it worked, bringing her out of what ever it was much more quickly than just letting it pass. I called it dumb seizures, everthing she did was repetative and in slow motion.
  4. Oh sweet Mokka, My heart goes out to you and your family Bev. sniff
  5. Red has been on Phenobarb for years and I am now adding the potassium bromide. But we have always also had diazepam tabs to give him after the seizure, then eight hours later then again 16 hrs later to keep him from forming a pattern to the seizures. We also give him a supplement called Marin, it is a derivative of milk thistle to help his liver. Usually the vet won't put a dog on drugs for just one seizure. Red had maybe two a year for a few years before he started to have them more frequently and then went onto Pb. We don't crate, if i wasn't fortunate to have Lottie who like Althea heads for the hills if possible, I would have to crate one of them when not around.
  6. Tom, yep sounds like some of Red's early ones. How old is Hero? Grand mal is the old term, but since i don't know the new one, i still call it that. The out of it phase is the post-ictal phase. this page might help ya. http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/site_map.htm They do get very hunrgy after a seizure, they burn a lot of enegry. Giving a high cal soft snack/small meal helps. Red will get mashed potatoes or a can of soft food. even soup with crackers, whatever i can get to quick. Althea being spooked is really a good thing. Because the alternate is for her to attack the weaker member of the pack. That happened to a friend and he had to re-home the attacking dog.
  7. On his last bloodwork some of his values were off. So I am adding the KBr in the hopes of getting him to a level to drop the high dose Pb down a bit
  8. I just finished the loading phase, the huge doses, today was the first day of 4.5 mls(200mg)of the liquid.
  9. another note on adding KBr I am seriously wondering if this is worth it... He is so loopy it is not even funny, falling down, falling over, just so out of it. I want my boy back. He is stable on the Pb, no sz in a year. It will take him a long time on KBr before we can even think about reducing the Pb. He is ten, to be 11 the end of May.
  10. update - day 4 of huge loading doses - Oh, my poor drunken sailor Thank doG that he goes on a lower dose tomorrow. He is dragging his back feet a lot more than he usually does (he has bad knees). Falling. Just being discombobulated in general. Needing to pee more, then being indecisive about it. The when he does do a puddle, well he was never a lifting boy, more like the forward lunge position, right now more of a wobbly lunge, with a drooping back end poor boy
  11. Background Red is 10 going on 11 May 31, he had been epileptic for many years, 4 or 5, and been on Phenobarb, and also gets a supplement called Marin. After some not great LFTs so we are adding KBr. He got the first of 4 loading doses this am. He was a bit more sleepy than usual, but no changes in overall behavior. The tonight he rolled off the human bed mid-stretch from having been roached. Of course he landed on a dog bed, He was sitting there just kind of blinking his eyes, like "What happened, Who pushed me?" But he took two tries to haul his big red butt up off the cushy bed, take a few steps look back at the human bed, then another moment to figure out he had to jump. He made it up, barely, landing in a sit, back end just not following all too well. My poor drugged boy.
  12. We still miss you so much sweetie, there will never be another like you.
  13. He is so handsome, and I too am jealous. I miss having a black dog/bitch so much.
  14. <<<If you've had this surgery done on your grey (or other breed), what were your results? Did your dog tolerate it well? Would you do it again? Did it clear the recurrent issue of UTIs?>>> Our girl Lottie had this done a few months after we got her, 5 years ago. While she didn't have a large number of UTIs she did have severe skin problems in the area due to the excessive fold. She did have the surgery, and healed well, we can't even tell, no scars. in the years between she has only had two UTI's, and one of those was after one of the other dog's had passed after being ill for some time, and I think, in her mourning, she didn't drink enough. But yes we would do the surgery again. Recovery time was not long and she is a much happier girl and not preoccupied by having to excessively clean the area.
