  1. You can give her Benadryl. I found that helped me when I was bitten.
  2. Isn't he handsome! Congratulations Karen. Hopefully I'll get to meet Monty at some point this summer.
  3. Sending prayers and support. I hope you find someone who can do it competently.
  4. Welcome home Outlaw! I know you said Foster, but I'm just saying..............
  5. Robin, you have many prayers from here for Loca.
  6. Contact OSU (Dr Couto`s team) Dr Couto himself is a hematologist and an oncologist. You`ll find the link for contact info at the bottom of my siggy.
  7. I thought spider bite the first time it happened. Sadly that isn't it. We can't find a mark anywhere to indicate a bit. Plus sometimes there is a fever, sometimes not. Always about 5 days of increasing swelling, then it starts to go away.
  8. Jake did really well having his joint tapped. The worst part was when Miki shaved his wrist he did not like the razor. He didn't move or even wince when the needle went in, I did. We won't know anything until the end of the week. Miki sent two samples, one to check for bacteria and one to check for auto-immune reactions and to see if white cells are fighting bacteria. Some bacteria's don't survive long enough to show up in the first test, if the white cells are fighting then there is a bacterial infection. Jake is on Metacam, since he had an odd reaction to rymadil. I will also add some traumeel now since I can treat the swelling. I've felt awful letting it grow so big.
  9. Char I am just loving my new pendant. Every time I wear it people comment, an not just greyhound people either! I'll get a picture and post it.
  10. Thanks for the good thoughts. Poor guy is really uncomfortable and I feel awful waiting this out. I know it's necessary, but it's hard to see him like this. He goes in at 12:45 tomorrow. Look at his big foot.
  11. Hang in there Diane. Praying for some good news.
  12. Ouch! Hope it turns out to be minor. If it is soft tissue, try Traumeel. I use the drops or the cream, it is wonderful to help healing soft tissue injuries.
  13. Contact OSU and have the Greyhound Health and Wellness team consult.
  14. Welcome back to GT! Sorry Jamey is having problems, I'm praying it isn't osteo. Depending on your diagnosis, or if there is a problem getting a diagnosis - contact OSU's Greyhound Health and Wellness Program. They will give you or your vet free consults on retired racing greyhound issues. Dr Couto is a Godsend, and he is very much involved in Galgo rescue and goes to Scooby at least once a year with a team to do medical work. You can find the link for contact information at the bottom of my siggy If you need any other help, send me an email at hopeforhounds @ casualbling . com (make sure to remove the spaces in the email address.
  15. I went through this in January with Jake. I would take him back to have it re checked. Sometimes it isn't tacking down and they can smooth the edges (after freezing) with a cotton swab. Jake ended up needing to have his cornea hatched. Basically the vet scratches the cornea with a fine needle. This promotes even healing. I wrapped the dew claw on his leg so he couldn't scratch his eye with it. It took Jake's eye almost 6 weeks to heal completely, he needed 2 hatchings done since he managed to scratch it again just as the first abrassion healed. I hope your boy heals quickly.
  16. Our vet called and Jake has an appointment on Saturday for a joint tap. He is also on Tramadol, so he should be comfortable while he's mad I won't let him do anything.
  17. Jake has another swollen foot and lower leg. We are waiting this one out, so that our vet can do a fine needle and a joint tap. That requires it to be more swollen than it is now. Hopefully we will finally have an answer as to why this keeps happening. Since April 21 2008 he has had 5 incidents of swelling and redness in 3 different legs. Twice in his back right, twice in his front right and once in his back left. We have a theory, and if we are right we can treat with anti-inflammitory meds. Jake is a low positive Von Willebrand, so he could be simply twisting an ankle and then having bleeding in the joint. Keep your fingers crossed we can get an answer this time.
  18. Ouch! If you can get some Traumeel drops they really help with the bruising from trauma such as that. You can get them at a health food store. Although the Loblaws here carries them in their organic section.
  19. A holistic vet told me that you would have to give almost a whole container of yogurt to offer the benefits needed from one acidopholus capsule. When my guys are on antibiotics, I put them on acidopholus (you can get it at bulk barn) and leave them on it for at least 2 weeks after the meds are finished.
  20. Oh owwwww! Poor guy that had to hurt. Glad you got him fixed up. Prayers for an uneventful healing.
  21. Hi Karen welcome to you and Bu. Black racers often look brownish, it's his kennel coat. You'll find in a few months he will start to darken.
  22. Claudia I am so very sorry. I know whe will have some wonderful company at the bridge Godspeed Pretty Misty
  23. Many of you know that Jake has been presenting a puzzle for our vet. He has come up lame 4 times on 3 different legs. All 4 times he has responded with rest 3 times with antibiotics. Now we have to figure out the "why". Last week he had a check up and seems fine. He had a blood test and everything is normal for greyhounds. Our next step is to re run the Von Willebrand's test as he had a low positive last time. We will also re do his tick test although Miki is thinking it is something else. The next time he has a swollen leg, we will wait a day or so then do a joint tap. We have two possibilities. One - Immune Mediated PolyArthritis, either tick or infection as a source. Two - Injury, that due to the low positive V W disease he is bleeding into the joint. Miki is hoping that this is the case as we can manage it with restricting his play (sorry Peanut) and meds. If it isn't V W we will do a round of doxy and hope. If it isn't either of these
