I am so sorry the shy ones are so rewarding
  2. I hope he is feeling better! FWIW, I had a cat the was repeatedly vomiting, just bile after the first few times, but I got really worried when I saw blood. I took him to the evet, and they told me that repeated vomiting can irritate the esophagus and stomach lining, causing them to bleed. Once he stopped vomiting, the bleeding also stopped.
  3. My Sugar had a number of medical problems in her later years, but when her spinal problems started, she could barely stand, much less walk. I started her on acupuncture, and while it did take a few weeks, she got back about 90% of her mobility. She was a very timid dog, but tolerated the acupuncture very well. I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try.
  4. I tried Ace for Fletcher's fireworks anxiety, and I really did not like the way it affected him. I convinced my vet to give him Valium, and that worked much better. He was still a little upset, but not nearly as bad. I know some people have used Ace successfully for fireworks and/or thunder, but it didn't work for us.
  5. glad you took her in and got some meds (and a confirmation that it was her neck!) It's like having a bad back, nothing hurts until you move just the wrong way, then . Rest will fix her up
  6. beautiful family you have there! I thought Woot looked like a Gizmo/Bandita relative
  7. Yep, sounds like Molly when she hurt her neck. Try and keep her quiet, walk her with a harness if you have to walk. It may take as long as a few weeks to completely heal.
  8. :yay so glad she is back to her "old" self I just said to Fletcher & Molly this morning, "you will both be ten this year, stop acting like deranged puppies!"
  9. He may have muscle cramps/soreness in other areas because his spinal problems are throwing his normal movement off. I hope it turns out to be something treatable. My first grey had lower back/spinal problems, and a couple of times, she couldn't stand or walk. Steroids and pain meds got her going short term, and acupuncture really helped her over the long haul.
  10. hoping you get some anwers, and none of them end in "sarcoma"!
  11. I am so sorry Your stories of Hearty brought back memories of my horse Sandy, he was very much the same personality. It is such a special bond.
  12. Fletcher gets about a tsp of Manuka honey whenever his IBD starts to act up, it is amazing how helpful it is! Of course, each IBD dog is a little different, so Merlin may not tolerate it. So glad to hear he is eating better!
  13. I have one dog that can't eat most commercial treats, he's sensitive to a lot of things, like molasses (do you know how many treats are made with molasses? about 99% of them ) If you aren't sure what they are sensitive to, the dehydrator is a good idea, you can do sliced sweet potatoes and liver as well as chicken breasts! Little pieces of cheese are usually well received around here too
  14. for a greyhound size dog, maintenance dose should be 1200-1500 mg a day. also consider combining it with chondroitin and MSM. the powdered form (of all these) is much cheaper, but I am lazy and use tablets don't worry if the dosage isn't exact.
  15. Noooooo not Saint! I am so sorry, you and he overcame so much, he was such a special boy
