  1. A little background, Fletcher has arthritis and it has gotten worse in the last couple of years. He's had x-rays, VF tests, exams, nothing to indicate anything other than arthritis. He is on metacam and tramadol, and milk thistle, plus Arthrisoothe Gold and Fresh Factors. This has been keeping him comfortable unless he overdoes it (he still acts like a deranged puppy instead of a senior gentleman ) The weird panting is in the evening, usually around 8:30-9. He will be lying on his couch sleeping when he starts panting rapidly. It lasts a minute or two, then stops. Sometimes it happens again, sometimes not. If he wasn't male and a dog, I would swear he was having hot flashes His regular vet is puzzled, and the internist I took him to last year couldn't find a cause either. I think we are going to change his pain medication, and I am going to take my own advice and start him on acupuncture. Anyone seen anything like this? Why would arthritis pain flare when he lying there asleep? He takes thyroid medicine, dosage was recently changed, but this was going on before the change, and has continued after. I don't want to medicate him more than necessary, but I don't want him to be in pain, either.
  2. Glad to see you found the exemption! I think most greys can learn to kinda sit, but for most it isn't comfortable, although I've known a few to do it naturally (and quite prettily ) As for the "expert" teaching that class, I'd get my dog out of there fast! What an idiot!
  3. geez, enough already! I was so hoping for it to be something (anything) else
  4. I am so sorry for you all She is no longer frightened or in pain
  5. It certainly seems like many greyhounds are prescribed thyroid medicine unnecessarily, but my question is, are there symptoms if a dog is getting soloxine when it isn't needed? Are there health concerns? (full disclosure), Fletcher is on soloxine after my grey savvy vet did the full panel a few years ago, so this is just curiosity on my part, not a personal health question
  6. I am so sorry Billy was a very lucky dog
  7. Good to hear they were already addressing some of your concerns! I hope her arrhythmia is under control soon and she can come home
  8. hoping for arthritis or something else easily treatable!
  9. Mary, I am so sorry she was just adorable
  10. I use the meat flavored baby food, but if he likes veggies, those are ok too, just check the ingredients to make sure there is no onion/onion powder. Vanilla Ensure would be good to have on hand, it's very easy to digest and high in calories (just don't read the ingredients, they sound disgusting, to me anyway ) Also, an fyi on the coconut oil. At cooler temps, it is a soft solid, whitish in color. At warmer temps, it is a mostly clear liquid. Both perfectly normal, just didn't want you to be surprised if you've never dealt with it before.
  11. now that he is moving a little better, have you considered acupuncture? It made such a difference for my wobbly old girl!
  12. I've always used Heartguard Plus. When Molly brought home hookworms from the kennel, we treated her & Fletcher with something else (Panacur? I don't recall) to clear up the worms, but Heartguard + has kept us from having any more outbreaks. I am pretty sure they (the worms) are in our dirt now
  13. I think I would be looking for another vet. I know my vet will work me in same day, even stay late, if I have a sick dog. I don't know if that is high for just an x-ray in your area, but it would be very high here. Even the ultrasound at the specialty vet didn't cost that much!
  14. I use it instead of fish oil, my IBD boy doesn't tolerate any kind of fish oil, but coconut oil works just fine.
  15. I can't add anything to the suggestions you have gotten so far, I think they cover everything we tried with Sugar. So I'll just give you and Norm and
  16. that does seem like a lot for x-rays, but I know costs can vary around the country. I'd ask anyway. I would also ask if the blood work included testing for diabetes and cushings (probably not). I hope you can get some answers and it is something treatable
