  1. I have had good luck with supplements helping too....I have used Springtime for joint stuff and their fresh factors just as the dogs age. I would definately ask about the carprofen...my dogs have not had any problems using it instead of rimadyl. Good Luck!
  2. What a cutie! I am sure if you can get some weight off her that her mobility will improve and maybe rimadyl won't be needed. My vet has been doing the generic version of it called carprofen I think. Its price wasn't bad.... No knowledge on the Lyme...just Congrats!
  3. I would never ask someone to pay vet bills on a dog that just killed their cat. It was an unfortunate situation where the cat was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Many people have indoor and outdoor cats because cats so love to be outside.
  4. I agree about avoiding other dogs. I will walk the other way or out and around. Dogs on leashes often act differently than in an environment where they can get away.
  5. Big, Big Hugs to you all on your sudden loss.... Such a beautiful boy...
  6. What an adorable mature boy he is! Congrats to you both!
  7. Oh Wendy....so very very sorry for your loss..... He was so beautiful....loved his coloring....
  8. And maybe stating the obvious but I would definately leave the blinds up....I had a dog that never had any SA issues still destroy some blinds because he just wanted to see out the windows.
  9. What a beautiful story of Love, Wendy. Tears with you....
  10. How old is your dog? The first dog I started out with was a youngster (only 2) and did not do well by himself. He was a mess and after a month of him being completely stressed I did make the decision to return him. I took some time to think about it and got another dog about a month later. He was just shy of being 5 years old and fit in so well. He adjusted to life on his own fairly quickly and became what I can only describe as the love of my life. Just a thought....
  11. Sold by the case here for about $18 I think...I just got some last weekend. Such a weird world at my house...I have three dogs that will eat anything now. So good price for what looks like a decent food.
  12. Jen, It is canned grain free but it is in little chunks so not sure if you would like it for kong filling or not. http://costcocouple.com/natures-domain-turkey-and-pea-stew-dog-food/
  13. I use the Natures Domain canned...it is in a red can and I believe turkey something. The dogs all like it but I do not have picky eaters.
  14. I have noticed that my water dish seems to be empty more than normal. And Mollie used to drink quite a bit so with her gone it has to be Dylan. (too tall for the little dogs) He loves to go out and Jeff has been home a lot and has mentioned that Dylan has been in and out a lot lately. He hasn't had any accidents but has always been somewhat of a OCD drinker. RIght before feeding he will gulp down a lot. that it is nothing...since Dylan and he are similar in age I can not even remotely handle another health issue.
  15. Ditto that...my current greyhound does not like coats and looks in pain if you put one on...he doesn't wear one. He is fine.
  16. Oh boy....hope that is not a big mess coming out! After the great granola bar incident at my house there were a couple unpleasant messes!! Merry Christmas!
  17. Hope you have gotten good news on your girl. I went through a similar experience years ago with my first grey. After a long lists of tests he was diagnosed with FCE....similar things had happened with him. Very sudden onset. Obviously the recovery is dependent on the location of the cloat. But he recovered nicely and lived to be 12 and this happened when he was 7. He didn't completely recover bathroom control but he was happy and healthy other than that.
  18. You also probably should know that greyhound owners might be part of the issue as well. They do have thin skin but in most other ways not really different than other breeds. Greyhound owners are typically extremely devoted and willing to/chose to treat many big illnesses.
  19. That is excellant.... I forgot to mention...after a couple of weeks of being home I did pursue acupuncture with Rascal. It seemed to improve his healing.... Good thoughts for you both...
  20. My first grey Rascal had FCE when he was 7 as well...he didn't completely lose use of his legs but went down. His use of his legs came back pretty quickly but he didn't completely regain bladder and bowel control. But similar to a stroke he did get better as time went by....it was a few weeks when there were improvements. Then it was kind of as good as it got. He was healthy other than lack of bowel and bladder control He developed lymphoma at the age of 12. He was in the hospital for about 10 days and did do better once he got home. I wish you the very best of luck...obviously no case is the same with FCE. Just depends what nerves are effected. Rascal was also my everything...my only dog at this point. I was completely gutted...it was terrifying.
  21. I don't think your dismissive attitide to someone new to dogs is helpful. This was a knee jerk reaction to something that is not expected. I have had dogs for many years and have not been biten by any of them. The OP has admitted their involvement to the problems. They are looking for opinions moving forward. To the OP...think long and hard if you can move forward...talk to the group and get their thoughts...good luck on your future with greyhounds.
  22. Jen...Once you master this dog training stuff I think your next move it to try out Vet school. Hope Z is feeling better everyday!
