Out First E-Vet Trip....
smurfette replied to NeedlenoseJake's topic in Health and Medical discussion
I once had a dog, a berger des pyrennees and he was at the vets after a car accident. He ran into a driving car. Lucky him, just some minor bruises and scratches but he got x-rays and was very nice, stayed still, didn't try to bite, didn't even growl.... ...than the doc sat him down, told us to go home and to take it easy. My dog walked up to him and bit him in his leg. I was so stunned. He kept his anger to himself and planned his attack. Strange dog - vet was clearly not amused. Since that day we always had to go to the other vet - his wife. -
Hello and congrats from Germany.

Welcome from Germany. Your excitement reminds me of myself... of a much younger self.... years ago. I'm looking forward to read about your progress and of course to see pictures of Albus and when he or she is there, your new pup. I also happen to like your name... Andy is living here, too... but he is a grey. 😉

Edge Killed A Rabbit And Tried To Bring It In House
smurfette replied to Susanval's topic in Training and Behavior discussion
I think your grey is more intelligent than you give him credit for. He knows the cat as one of his companions. My boys love nothing more than to chase cats but my mother's black half persian cat has never been in any danger from them. -
I've Gone To The Dark Side (Feeding Raw)
smurfette replied to a topic in Food and dietary discussion
I free feed a bowl of kibble for each boy during the day because they don't eat well in the morning. In the evening I feed raw and they absolutely love it. I buy in a small shop where they offer meat from the area, no factory farming, no genetically modified food. It is not the cheapest but in return I get healthy dogs. I always tell my husband that I'd rather spend my money on good food instead of vet bills. And it works.- 16 replies

Your new girl is a really sweet pup. Congratulations.

Welcome from Germany. Kessler sounds like a sweet boy. Do you perhaps have a photo to share?

One of my three and it gets better over time. He just gets used to his humans occupying the same spot he is in. We came from snapping to a very pissed look for disturbing his beauty sleep. I can live with the look.

Welcome from Germany. I rehomed a beautiful greyhound lady to a loony whippet just yesterday. They make a greyt match. And you have six of those little rascals. That's quite a job. Pictures would be nice.

I am so sorry for your loss. I always loved your photos of Spriet. She was a very beautiful lady with those most beautiful ears.

A friendly hello from Germany.

Hello from Germany. It's nice to have you here. By the way... Osiris is a beautiful name.

I don't have a clue about the meds but I give a teaspoon full of grated coconut with every meal and we never had worm problems. The sharp edges of the coconut penetrate the eventual worms' outer shell with the effect that they can't multiply.

Giving The Dogs Raw Egg Yolks?
smurfette replied to GreyhoundGirl's topic in Food and dietary discussion
Of course, the whole thing. But always in the yard because my boys love to play with the eggs. They toss them in the air and the lick the mess of the lawn. -

Trying Not To Freak Out (Update Post 12)
smurfette replied to ramonaghan's topic in Health and Medical discussion
Great news. I'm with the laser therapy. It helps so much in combination with physiotherapy. -
I give kibble for breakfast and leave it in the bowls till dinner. Dinner is raw. My boys often don't eat breakfast, but they love dinner. Sometimes the eat some kibbles during the day, sometimes not. I don't worry. They are just not so hungry in the morning.

Greyhound's Relationship With Wife And New Baby
smurfette replied to a topic in Training and Behavior discussion
I have an even better idea. Call your in-laws and rehome her. No, of course not. But I have the feeling that the situation won't improve when your child gets older. Your wife can't stand the dog. Then you can only keep one of them. When I was in your shoes, minus the baby, I chose Colin to stay. But this is something I would never recomment. Sorry, if this sounds mean but I don't see another way. -
Asking For Prayers, Tail And Toenail Injuries
smurfette replied to Urismom's topic in Health and Medical discussion
I'm a big fan of soft laser therapy when dealing with open wounds. Andy had a big hole on his hip right down to the muscle, like a triangle. We went to laser therapy 3 times a week and after 3 months it was finally healed. The laser help with the healing, activated the wound edges and promotes tissue perfusion.- 69 replies

You can use these little plastic tubes women use to make curls (I don't know the english word - Lockenwickler). First you bandage the tail. After that you put this curl making thing over the bandage and tape it.

Is he a shortcoat? My physio recommends a hot water bottle or one of these little sacks filled with grains (I don't know the english word for them - Koernerkissen) you heat up in the microwave. I lay those sacks on the dogbed in my dogs' back and put a blanket on them for some time, ten minutes or so.

Greyt news that your boy gains some weight. I have a skeletor here at home, too and he gained some weight over the last weeks, thanks to suggestion from nice greytalkers. I know exactly how you feel. I also free feed my dogs during the day. I have three boys and three bowels of kibble standing in my living room and hall. In the evening they get raw and they eat it at the moment I put down their bowels. The free feeding just happened. Colin had always access to his food and when Andy came to live with us I just put a bowel down for him, too. And the same with Paddy. My idea was that when there are exactly or more ressources than dogs to guard them, there should be no problem. And it works like that even with dogbeds, stuffies, treats. We never had a problem with ressource guarding.

I would have suggested as the others before to loose some weight and find a nice physiotherapy for your boy. I take mine to physio every 6 weeks or so. And I give dried st. John's wort and lemon balm to their diet, one teaspoon every evening to help with their mobility.
