  1. Im so sorry. Run free Ike.
  2. Thx everyone for the kind words.... Tho Oscar wasn't mine, I've known him for several years, seen him grow, and he was the first greyhound I ever met. I will definitely pass along your sentiments to her.
  3. My good friend, the friend that made me want to adopt greyhounds, lost their greyhound Saturday to Lymphoma. When I first met her and her husband, they had two greyhounds... Ice and Oscar. This was 5 years ago. They are what made me want to adopt them! Oscar died Saturday.... He came so far since I've known him. He was very people shy when I first met him. The last time I saw him he came over for a play date with my hounds. He was sweet and affectionate. This was about 2 months ago. I feel lucky to have known Oscar.... He was a great greyhound and a sweetheart. I wish my friend peace during this difficult time.
  4. My eyes just got misty reading your post. Find comfort in their memories.
  5. Thanks for the advice! I don't know if I will ever enroll them anywhere but it's good to know how to look into it.
  6. Agility classes sounds awesome. I would love to get into these but I don't know how to even go about it? How do you find classes by you? Anyway, good luck! And have fun
  7. Interesting..... What if their food is fish-based? We use a dry food that has Herring, Salmon and whitefish protein.... As well as Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Would this matter like fish oils?
  8. @ silverfish and others... I hear what you are saying. I can completely see that. Our last dog absolutely loved parties. She was a social butterfly. Obviously these 2 are totally different dogs with different needs. We may have to keep our parties to a minimum and keep them to small guest lists. Thx for the feedback gang.
  9. When we are out on a walk, etc, he is extremely social... walks right up to people (men and women) to say hello. I am almost wondering if he's gotten territorial now in the house? Regardless, we will be careful if and when others come over. I think it was a little too much for him with all the men around.
  10. Funny thing is, no one raised their voice, or were making any sudden moves. Everyone was pretty chilled out and were mellow.
  11. We had a small party last night. Mostly men.... We bought the UFC fight. Most of the men were pretty big. One was 6'9". Sidney got very upset. He barked at them, growled, and finally started nipping at people when they got up to get foodie a drink in the kitchen. We finally had to crate him worried he would bite one of our guests. Not sure what happened? We've had a few other parties since we've had them and he was ok. I almost wonder if the men freaked him out.... Especially their size. My husband and I are pretty small people. I'm 5'1 and my husband is 5'5". He's always barked at the door when men come in. Not sure what we should do if anything.
  12. I bought the Dremel 7700 off Amazon. I used it on low. It's pretty quiet. So far I'm happy with it. It came with a lot of attachments. It's also cordless.
  13. I didn't know about dremeling dog nails until I read about it here. We have always taken our dogs to the vet or a groomer to get their nails clipped. Well since our hounds have been pretty awesome so far with whatever we've presented them with, I decided to buy a dremel and give it a shot myself. I initially turned it on just to let them hear it. Sidney was fine as usual... June did her usual, I don't know what that sound is so I'm gonna move away from it. I turned it on multiple times and let them sniff it while it was on and off. Today I thought I'd go for it and try it on Sidney.... At least June would hear it on more. Sidney laid there while I used it briefly on him. He is ridiculously laid back. June didn't back away, so we decided to go for it on her. My husband petted her and reassured her while I briefly worked on her front nails. She stayed very still and didn't try to jerk away. We gave them lots of praise and treats afterwards. I plan on using this on them on a regular basis. So another successful step in the life of a new hound owner
  14. This is all reassuring. I've been wanting to ask about it for a while. As for the anxiety- that was the reason given why she was returned to the adoption place and how I lucked out and got her In the past 4+ months we've had her she has settled quite a bit with us. I think she will always be more susceptible to loud noises, etc. but I think environment helps a lot and she seems to really like it with us and Sidney
  15. I've seen them from day one and didn't think too much of it before my friend said something. I'm hoping it's just a grey being a clumsy grey. I would hate to think anyone would treat her badly... she's so sweet!
  16. I'm not sure where to ask this...... First, I want to preface this thread by saying our greyhounds are awesome.... No issues and they are just joys. Now my question: June, who is a little more on the anxious and leery side of the two, has many scars on her back legs. Is this from bad treatment at the track when she raced? I have a friend who has greys and her one grey has the same marks and she said he was abused. I am wondering if the same is true of my baby June?
  17. Yup, still planning on leaving them up and using them on occasion.
  18. What a good-looking crew! Good luck! I'm sure all will go well.
