  1. What a shock. So glad he can be home with you getting the care and love he needs. (Though I can't imagine your exhaustion between this and a new puppy!) Best wishes for continued improvement and a full recovery for your sweet boy.
  2. I'm so sorry, and even more so that you're having to wait for tests, appointments, answers...I know it makes things that much harder. I do hope you'll get better news once they know more.
  3. I'm so sorry for your sudden loss. Rest well, Brady.
  4. Was just coming here to check for an update--perfect timing! So glad to hear all went well and that you were happy with Grassmere. Dr. Brumbelow is great; she's seen my cats a few times. I am sure you and the girls will all sleep soundly tonight. (And sorry about the traffic--I am so thankful I work from home and almost never have to deal with that anymore!)
  5. I was told no. (BTW, Sweep was on Iverhart Plus when we first switched to Bravecto, and then the vet stopped carrying it, so she's been on two different heartworm meds with no side effects with the Bravecto.) Here's a snippet from a message my former vet posted on the adoption group's email list in June of last year (she's retired now, but owns 7 greys of her own and is very active in the group) when someone found a Bravecto "horror story" online and expressed concern: Bravecto has been used safely in the US for over a year now, and for several years in Europe. First, it doesn’t “repel” fleas. It KILLS fleas and ticks. I’ve seen no reports of issues with this product. Searching VIN just now, there are none noted. That may change, but a year of use is long enough to gauge whether it’s “killing” dogs like you describe. As with Comfortis, use with caution in dogs with known seizures. It has been given along with Sentinel, Heartgard, Proheart without incident. Bravecto is my personal flea product choice. I’ve used it since it came out last year without issue. In fact, I LOVE it. Given orally every 3 months, it’s easy, not messy, no extra collar. I’ve seen no problems with my hounds. There’s some rumor that it may get labeling for cats, and that indicates a good safety margin, too. Hope that gives you some reassurance! I know every dog is different, but it really sounds like this one has a good track record with greys.
  6. Right--the Sentinel's still monthly. On the months when she's due for both Sentinel and Bravecto, I give them at least 24 hours apart out of an abundance of caution, but she's never had any sort of issue with either.
  7. We switched from Comfortis/Sentinel to Bravecto/Sentinel about a year ago. My vet's office assured me they had lots of greys successfully taking it. We have had no side effects, and I love the convenience of only giving it every three months. It's a big pill and Sweep doesn't like the taste, so I have to break it into pieces and hide it in cat food, but that's just her; she hated Comfortis and the Springtime supplements too.
  8. Well, it's certainly been an adventure! Best wishes for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery.
  9. The girls will do great! Do you know which vet will be doing their dentals? (Not that you can go wrong with any of the four; just curious.)
  10. Thanks again for your offer on the carrots! I think I'll order some on Amazon since I'm a Prime member, just so I'll have them for the future. Sending good thoughts for you and the girls tomorrow!
  11. How much Slippery Elm do you give? I actually have some capsules on hand (it's one of the many things DH has tried for acid reflux). But looks like I probably won't need it this round: she slept through the night and had a perfect poop this morning. I'll continue the bland diet through today for safety's sake and start reintroducing kibble tomorrow. Go figure: I try to give her a little adventure since she's been restricted for so long due to her limp, and this is the result!
  12. Beautiful tribute to a beautiful girl. Hugs.
  13. Haha, a pleasant-smelling house is important! I am grateful that she has not had any accidents inside and the gas was only last night (knock on wood). We've been lucky in that department--she tolerates most foods well and any gas is quickly remedied with a spoonful of yogurt. Sounds like Olewo carrots might also be a good thing to have on hand though. PM report: She scarfed up her oatmeal and chicken and her post-dinner walk was poop-free, so fingers crossed....
  14. What a kind offer, thank you! We've never tried Olewo carrots. I'll keep you posted but am hopeful we'll be back to 100% Wednesday. Thanks for the oatmeal tip too--she seemed to really like it at lunchtime, so I'll just do that again and add some chicken for dinner. I'd been wondering about the girls' dentals. They'll be in great hands.
  15. No blood or mucus, thankfully. The color's normal but it comes out like water and smells extra foul. (Not like the rose garden aroma that usually surrounds my princess. ) OK, we will go with a bland diet for a day or two--thanks to you both!
  16. Thanks for the reply. Any thoughts on food? Should we stick with kibble or try boiled chicken and rice tonight?
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss; we all hoped you'd have more time with her. Rest well, Lizzie.
  18. Sweep had paint-peeling gas and a pudding-like poop early yesterday evening, and overnight and today she's had pure liquid poops. Her appetite's normal, and when she goes out, she's not urgent about it--she takes her time finding the perfect spot as usual--and she doesn't seem to feel nauseated or painful. She actually ran a couple of laps this morning after she pooped. By some miracle, in 3+ years I haven't dealt with Big D with her (the only time she had it was when she was staying with my sister when we were on vacation), so I'm looking for some advice. She's on Gabapentin 2x a day and Previcox every other day, so I am hesitant to fast her entirely. I do not think this is Previcox related since she's been on and off it for months now with no issues. Just now I gave her oatmeal with a spoonful of manuka honey and plain Greek yogurt (which I know she tolerates well), and a generic Metamucil capsule sprinkled into it. She's due for her Previcox today--should I give it? I always give Pepcid 30-45 min beforehand. We took her for a walk yesterday morning to a horse farm with a dog park (empty) where she did a fair bit of sniffing around, but neither DH nor I saw her ingest anything. I suppose she could have picked something up and licked it off, though. We also opened a new bag of FreshPet treats yesterday morning--we use them as pill pockets--and though they smell and look normal I wonder if they might be off. Those are really my only two guesses; nothing else diet-wise has changed. I'm keeping an eye on her water intake, which so far has been pretty good. How long do you give it before calling the vet?
