  1. Taylor had his second chemo (Carboplatin) on Wednesday, and that went well. It's been almost 3 weeks since his last of 4 weekly radiation treatments, and the only side effect is just a little hair loss that started a few days ago. It's not red or irritated, and he doesn't pay any attention to the area. This coming Wednesday, he will have his every 3 week IV of the bone strengthening drug, Zoledronate. He's a happy boy. Loves/demands rides and walks 2-3 times a day and stopping in stores for cookies. Eating and sleeping and peeing and pooping, and no weight loss. Just hoping the lion doesn't fart
  2. Taylor had #2 chemo today. The progress exam, blood work, and costs to administer the chemo: $255.00. The chemo, Carboplatin, is around $500.00 per round, and the first 4 rounds were provided at N/C by Ohio State University as part of their greyhound program. The weekly progress exam and blood work to monitor possible dangerous drops in his numbers: $177.00. My insurance pays 80%. The monthly premium is around $40.00.......well worth it to me.
  3. As soon as I got each dog, I got them insurance. I have Embrace. $300.00 annual deductible and they pay 80%. Taylor's premium at 6 years old is a little under $500.00 a year. Face is a year and a half younger, and his premium is around $450.00 a year. Taylor is having treatment for bone cancer the past month and a half. Radiation, chemo, Zoledronate (a bone strengthening drug) and pain medication So the basic cost for the policy is the premium plus the deductible= $800.00. I was approved by OSU to get the first 4 of 6 rounds of chemo at N/C and that was worth around $2000.00. I have recovered the premium cost MANY, MANY times over. Embrace has a reimbursement check to me within 10-14 days of each claim submitted. Checks arrive every week. Taylor's oncologist figures his care will run around $10,000 a year. He wishes more owners had pet insurance. So many people cannot afford care for their beloved pets. I would never have a pet without insurance.
  4. #2 chemo was scheduled for today. It's been 3 weeks since the first round. He has been having weekly blood work to monitor the white cell count, and today it finally dropped, compared to last week. Dropped just enough to hold off today's chemo for another week, so it will be 4 weeks in-between this time. In the meantime, he is acting fine. Eating and sleeping and peeing and pooping, and demanding rides/walks at least 3 times a day!! He's a happy boy. That's Face in the "danger zone"
  5. I know there is a wonderfully catered party going on at The Bridge today.
  6. Taylor (zzzzzz on the bed and Face passed out and flipped upside-down next to him) had his 4th weekly radiation treatment this morning. All done with radiation. Continuing with chemo and Zoledronate, the bone-strengthening drug. Taylor is a happy boy. Eating and sleeping and peeing and pooping, and loves/demands 2-3 rides and walks a day.
  7. Taylor, my 6 year old boy, had his first dose of Carboplatin a week ago Wednesday, for cancer is his right wrist. Other than having a little nausea around 10:30 PM that night (gave him the medication he was sent home with ) and being a little sleepy on Thursday, he had no side effects at all. From what I have researched, most (80%?? ) dogs don't have any side effects at all. Ohio State University has a program that offers 4 free rounds of Carboplatin to dogs that qualify. I contacted them on a Thursday afternoon. The request was approved on Monday and the chemo was shipped overnight to my oncologist that day. Here is their contact info: http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/ghwp http://vet.osu.edu/vmc/contact-us-0
  8. Thanks for the info. I found that 7 cent price.
  9. Sometimes very sad, but managing. And how can you not smile when your dog is following doctor's orders? Rest and elevate your leg!!!

  12. My boy Taylor is indeed a cancer fighting superhero (courtesy of Wetherby Collars). He had his third of 4 weekly radiation treatments on Tuesday, and wants/needs/DEMANDS 2, 3, 4 rides/walks a day. That's because we go places where they have COOKIES!!!
  13. Face is living dangerously. Taylor is feeling fine after his first chemo on Wednesday afternoon. I put some sheets down on the carpet, just in case he wasn't feeling well. He's eating and sleeping and peeing and pooping and going out for 3-4 rides/walks a day. We just came in from walking around the art district in Melbourne, FL. They were setting up for a big street fair....lots of good smells. 72 and sunny with a nice ocean breeze. http://eaugalliefoundersday.org/
  14. Taylor appears comfortable at 1:00 PM.
