3 weeks....for some strange reason I occasionally feel there will be a knock at the door and he will be standing there wagging his tail ! I was on my porch one day last week and through the trees saw someone with dogs walk by...one had a familiar prance to its step so I instantly thought greyhounds !!! I basically threw myself through the underbrush like a manic Neanderthal saying You, you with the dogs !!! Poor woman stopped...they were not greyhounds, a tall beagle coloured houndie and a smooth collie mix. I apologized and explained..she was very understanding and now pauses when she walks by so I can visit with her puppers.

Thank you all so much. It has been one week since his passing, and in that week 4 times I got up to check on him...and he was gone. 3 times I reached my arm around into the back seat to scratch his ears or chin as I was driving...and he was gone. My adult daughter bought him yougart as was the norm with the groceries then burst into tears with the realization as she unpacked them...because he was gone.

Thank you all. Picked up items of his from around the house. The hardest was taking the throw sheet from off the double bed where he slept...the sheet had indentations from where he last stood, foot prints. My special needs daughter and I stared at it for a long while...then she remarked , 'I almost wish there was poop there...because right now it would have sentimental value ' Jakie was a special needs adoption...born with a pelvic bladder and needed reconstructive surgery...only a 30 percent chance of survival. He beat the odds and so much more. My Velcro boy gave me 11 years of unconditional adoration which I have tried to live up to.

Today I had to say good bye to my dearest brave boy Jacob. Age 13 years 11 months. He was my first of three greyhounds, and the last. I have lost 4 elderly dogs over the past 4 years. Jakie was my heartdog...quiet , silly, stoic. I am dogless for the first time in 25 years. This is surreal.

So far so good...as long as his routine is kept the same, lol as in his choices...then he is calm. He had one more attack when he was made to come out of the bedroom and sleep in his dog bed , so a human could have the room. He kept getting up to stare in the direction of the closed door and worked himself up to a full fledged attack...throwing up and a major ** storm, heaving sides , eyes bulging....horriific. The human came out, duvet in tow and camped on the floor and pupper got the bedroom, bed and fan back to himself ! And the universe smiled. He routine is to come out to eat, potty , wag his tail, say hello...thn retreat back to the bed !.
