  1. My 10 1/2 year old boy, 2 years post stroke(which he recovered from) is now showing signs of kidney disease..hopefully early stage Increase drinking, major increased peeing, throwing up, weight loss...doesn't have his usual spark. The vet called..wants to admit him, start IV to flush..then see about meds/diet etc. If we don't take the emerg app open to us today..she will leave meds and food requirements for us Although I trust my vet.....I'm in a bit of a brain muddle. I'm worried about my pupper being away from home( probably 2 or 3 days)..how will it affect him..will the IV flush help enough to warrant the stress on him.. and me..I'm partially still in shock about him being ill.

  7. Why no plastic? I would think it would help leakage out of the band, but maybe it causes skin issues if they have to wear them 24/7? That is what we found...sweaty, smelly and skin issues. If we are going to be away from the house longer we double up on the Poise pads. Double up .. not as one on top of the other but one in front of the one that is directly under his whatsit , just incase of 'overflow'.
  8. My Jakie wears bellyband 24/7....just taking them off to potty in the yard then back on again. YES..use a Poise pad.. and avoid bellybands with plastic if you can.. Jakie's are 28 inches long by 6 inches wide and then a poise pad adhered to the bellyband to the band between the band and his whatsit. There is no smell.. and he gets a sponge bath with diluted baby wash every other day.
  9. he lost everything on his left side..vision, hearing, balance... He drooled and his left lip was floopy as was his left ear. When he felt like eating he chewed funny because half his tongue was affected. He maintained control over his bowels and bladder...but needed help and support to walk and stand. Two people and a towel, because his bendy long body was warping 3 different directions. I heard a strange noise in the dining room that morning and went to check it out and saw it happening. I was able to catch him and hold him and talk to him as it happened. I'll never forget the look in his face, in his eyes, as his body was betraying him. Well...1 year later and you wouldn't even know !! Aside from his left rear toes dragging when he is really tired ..he made a complete recovery !! He is even more loved at the Nursing home where he has been a St John Ambulance Therapy for 3 1/2 years..they call him ''the dog that understands"
