  1. Well....hopefully she'll improve today with the meds and some R&R. Have you tried massage? How about accupuncture? These darn mild winters we're experiencing now sure do make the footing dangerously slippery.
  2. So sorry for your loss. Run free, Girl....
  3. Jeepers....sorry I'm late to add our good thoughts for Shelby
  4. I do the shots myself for my horse. They are IM. Not sure why it would be 'illegal' to give a dog an IM shot. It certainly is not illegal here in Ontario. FYI Some vets do use Adequan IA (into Joints) on 'some' horses. It was a popular IA med a few years ago, but not so much anymore. There are much better things now to give IA. My hose gets HA/steroid combo about once a year into his hock joints. He has bone spurs. And of course, only a qualified vet shound do these types of shots.
  5. No crates now. Nixon was very happy to be in the crate when he first came here...he would only eat if the door was shut, but that quickly changed. We left it up for less than a month... he was not using it at all after the first week or so. Ruby was bounced from a home for breaking out of a crate. I did set one up, but she was terrified to go in it, so we just took it down. Nigel, our foster, was also bounced out his home for bad behaviour in his crate. I did not even set it up when he arrived here 3+ weeks ago, and have not regretted it at all. We do use a babygate, if needed, to keep dogs confined to the mud room. Our last Dobie was always crated if we went out. She loved that crate! I do agree that dogs should learn to tolerate a crate, but if they are hurting themselves, then it is not worth the risk. We are both semi-retired / work opposite shifts.... so someone is usually home. We also have horses that are on a very regular routine, so the longest the dogs would be left is no more than 4 or 5 hours. We obviously have no life.....
  6. So very sorry for the loss of your beautiful girl. Remember all the good times... Run free, Echo....
  7. Agree with this ...no way would I ever have a vet that could not keep their commitment to a single pet. And... what GeorgeofNE says....you are in for several years of long days and nights. Do what is best for your DOG...not what is best for you.
  8. Thank you so much for including our two Non-Greys...BillieJean an Bandit. We really miss them.....
  9. Glad to hear he is making progress. Keep up the good work!
  10. Not meaning to slam your vet, but there is no way they could do a proper/thorough fecal today while you waited at the clinic. They probably ust did a 'floatation', which is not reliable. Last time I had my dogs stool tested, it got sent out to a lab and the results did not come back for a couple of days. Hookworm and tapeworm are both especially hard to diagnose. I agree with 'tbhounds' ...you should go back to the vet and ask for a wormer. Better to be safe than sorry. My vet likes 'Drontol Plus' as it is effective for tapeworm, hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms.
  11. it's in the oroginal post...just click on the word BLOAT
  12. So, so sorry for the loss of your wonderful man. Remember the good times....
  13. No advice. Just a for you, your family and especially Joe. My heart aches for all of you.
  14. Yes...have her checked for intestinal worms! Most Greyhounds will come off the track with some kind of worms. Hookworm is often hard to diagnose ...and eliminate. Even if her stool comes back 'negative', I would still give her a dose or two of an some kind of worm medication.
  15. I am so, so sorry for your loss. Sheba was obviously a much-loved girl and you will miss her so very much. Just remember all the good times......
  16. Yes...to what 'Jilly' said in both her posts. And walking together will also help. Very L-O-N-G walks.
  17. Having owned mulitple large breed dogs for many, many years, I agree with everyone else. YES...dogs are most certainly 'pack' animals. Just spend an afternoon at any dog park and watch....
  18. So sorry for the loss of your handsome young man.....
  19. So sorry for your loss. She sounds like such a fun girl! Remember the good times....
  20. Maybe he knows the pony is lonely... Either that or you have a ghost... Seriously...he probably hears 'something' outside.
  21. Any reason she has to be in the crate?? Have you tried leaving her out of the crate? How long have you had her?
