The special memorial day at Mount Vernon sounds sweet. George Washington was a dog lover -- Lafayette shipped some hounds to him from France after the war ended, in care of one of John Adams's sons I believe. Imagine that dogsitting job -- for the president of the United States on a six-weeks ocean voyage. I envision George Washington smiling down at any dog enjoying Mount Vernon. Hail Pinky, Princess Warrior. One of the few females of any species brave enough to voluntarily weigh herself. We lift a cup of eggnog in salute.
