  1. I use a Dremel on Heidi. I have the corded version (link). I like the adjustable 10 speeds and only do a nail for a few seconds at a time. I just keep going around the foot until I get them all to where I want them. I tend to use clippers for her dew claws (like these). She doesn't care for the dremel on those.
  2. Heidi started chattering after about 6 months with us. It's absolutely adorable. She chatters when we have any food, ask her if she wants to go for a ride, or just generally when she is excited. I was glad to have read about it here before I saw it for the first time. I probably would have run to the vet if I didn't know it was excitement.
  3. Sounds like the same reaction Heidi had to her last shots. We took her in for shots only a few months after we got her. They gave her the rabies, kennel cough, and distemper. Her reaction was similar. She had the shots around 3pm and by 8pm her eyes were glassy, her movements were very slow, she was lethargic and had trouble standing. I took her out to go potty and she needed help making it back up the stairs. It scared the heck out of me. I spent a lot of time checking on her that night. By the next morning she was doing a little better, but I think I stayed home with her that day just in case. About a day later she was back to her old self. I hope he has continued to improve since this morning.
  4. Poor pups (and kitty). Glad to hear everyone will be OK after some healing time. I have an indoor kitty and can just imagine the damage he could do if he was cornered. Poor pups learned the hard way how fierce kitties can be. Heal quickly pups. RIP kitty.
  5. Heidi has been with us for nine months and just got her first minor injury last Thrusday. She stumbled as we were going down the cement steps near our entry door. Her back foot (above the pads, below the ankle) was a little scraped up on the inside. She didn't make a sound when she stumbled, so I didn't even notice the scrape for a few hours. I left it alone since it didn’t seem to be bothering her, but on Saturday she started licking it. I pulled out the med kit and put a non-stick pad and self-adhesive wrap on it. She was very good at leaving that alone. We left that on for Saturday and Sunday, then we decided to let it air out yesterday while DH was home with her. DH caught her licking it again, so he re-wrapped. Apparently it wasn’t wrapped it high enough because we woke up during the night to her licking near the top of the wrap. She had managed to lick enough to make it raw in one spot again. I re-wrapped it, making sure to go well above and below the scratch. It was 3am when I wrapped it and I wasn’t awake enough to think to take a picture. I don’t think a vet visit is necessary (she gets very stressed at the vet). We are just very new to dog injuries, so I’m hoping you all can give some advice. Is it OK to leave it wrapped for days? Is it better to let it air out some? Is there anything I should/could be putting on it to help it heal? I saw some wound spray in the band-aid section of the drugstore that said it helps stop pain and itching from minor wounds, but didn’t know if I could use anything like that on her or if it would sting. I assume it is bothering her if she is licking it (although she does get a little obsessive with licking sometimes). I’m going to pick up some toddler socks to put over it when I take her out. I’m hoping it will help keep the wrap dry when the grass it wet. Any suggestions are welcome.
  6. We use Interceptor. It is what Heidi was given at the adoption group. My vet tries to get me to buy Heartguard because it is a little cheaper, but I'm sticking with Interceptor.
  7. He's beautiful! Congratulations!
