Heidi was horribly afraid of having her nails trimmed until we figured out that a peanut butter jar would distract her. I put Heidi's muzzle on and give her an almost empty peanut butter jar. The peanut butter distracts her enough to let me dremel her nails. A kong with peanut butter works well too. The muzzle makes it take longer for her to get the peanut butter and also gives me piece of mind while I'm doing it.

She's beautiful!

Heidi got all the vaccines in February. She had only been with us for 2 months and I was very new to the world of dogs, so I went with my vets recommendations. She ended up with three shots (I think). I know two of them were rabies (required by law), bordetella, but I would have to look at her paperwork to figure out what the third one was. She had a bad reaction to the shots and scared us horribly. She had all the shots around 3pm and by 7pm her back end was so weak that she had trouble climbing up and down the three steps on our deck. She was kind of lathargic and refused to eat. By the next morning she was fine. I plan to spred out any shots with at least a week between them in the future. I don't know if my vet will charge an office visit for each shot, but it's worth it for her health even if he does.

Welcome from Maine! I'm still new to the greyhound experience (only had Heidi for 8 months), so my only advice is to get some sleep before the new pup gets there. I was amazed at how much sleep I lost in the first week. It was well worth it though.
