  1. We are not in Corvallis, but have been there many times when my brother lived there. Some things to check out when you arrive: Great Coffee at The Beanery, and wonderful food at the New Morning Bakery . The DaVinci Days Festival is also a blast. There are some Active GreyTalk Folks in the area but I can't recall names. Good luck on your move. EDITED TO ADD: Somehow, i forgot to mention one of my favorite dive bars - Squirrel's Tavern in Corvallis. It's not fancy, but is very laid back, and the food is awesome. Best chicken sandwich and burgers I've ever had. The fact that I forgot it means we are overdue for a trip out west. For a trip to the coast, check out Florence, Oregon, or Yachats, Oregon. Both are a reasonable drive. In Yachats - the Adobe is a great hotel and has a very good restaurant, on the oceanfront.

I am very sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking him in when others wouldn't. Run free Bucky.
  3. Chris, I am so sorry for your loss. Please let us know if there is anything at all we can do. Don
  4. No problem, just wanted to put it out there as a possibility. Our first problem with the High Prairie started when we were more than halfway through a 30 lb bag, which is stored in a sealed, airtight container. He had been on TOTW for quite a while and we beleive that it is a great food. I've lost track, but I think we've used it for at least a year, and never had an issue until a month ago. After all the stool / urine samples, blood work etc, it seems to be coming down to the food for us. We have noticed that the High Prairie and the Lamb based kibble is darker and appears oilier than it used to, so even if an ingredient didn't change, it's possible that one of their processes did, or it's just the batch to batch variation where they use a coating to make up fat or other content that is an issue for Rocket - not sure. Hope it's an easy fix for you and Beth.
  5. OK - since you started the thread.....I was afraid to bring it up. We have loved the results from TOTW until a month ago. Rocket started having runny poop on TOTW High Prairie a little over a month ago. After switching bags, trying different lot codes etc, we switched to the lamb based food which is lower calorie and he firmed right up - for about a week. Then back to liquid poop. We did a round of fasting, Flagyl, Hamburger and Rice, and when he fimed back up we went back to the lamb, figuring we switched him too fast. It was a no go. He also can't tolerate the Salmon based foods, so that is out. Tonight, he has eaten a small amount of scrambled eggs and rice after a 24 hour fast, and today during his fast, (sorry to be graphic) he pooped a huge bloody mass of gelatin like substance (vet says this is irritated stomach lining.) He was absolutley disinterested in his food the past few days, so I know the look you are speaking of - (IF it's so good, you eat it....that look) I started Googling, and found that TOTW made a change to the High Prairie last year. Some people reported issues in July, others in December, and I'm speculating that the change was phased in over time at each plant, accounting for the spike in reports in those 2 months. The change apparently involves more Venison and less Bison in the food due to availability issues. I found most of this info an another forum, but don't have it handy to reference for this post. Tomorrow I am picking up some I/D food at the vet as long as there is no problem with the eggs and rice. She wanted me to try a scrambled egg and rice before buying the food. He is back on 2 weeks of Flagyl also. We will be searching for a new food once he gats back on track. He has been perfect on TOTW until the past month, and I have a feeling that there has been some ingredient change that he just can't tolerate. As enthusiastic as he was on this food , I think Beth is probably on to something. His enthusiasm stopped - and this boy never met food he didn't like. Also, there has been no rhyme or reason to the timing - new bag, 2 weeks into a bag - didn't matter. We even tried multiple bags with different lot codes triyng to rule out a bad bag or spoilage. This is the third or fourth time that we've had to change foods where we've found info about a formula change that coincided with stomach issues. We can't really do raw right now, but it sure is tempting. Hope Beth feels better and gets her appetite back.
  6. We are very sorry for your loss. Your tribure was perfect.
  7. She's adorable. Looks like a Dodgem by Design girl or relative.
  8. The landing page at greytalk.com has no content on it and no "click to enter" as before. Greytalk.com takes you to the Portal tab, but the page is empty.
  9. We've had no gas issues on any of the Taste of The Wild foods. We are currently feeding the Lamb based TOTW food. Price here in Illinois is about 37-40 dollars for a 30lb bag - but we also find that he needs less of this food than others we have fed. He gets 1 1/2 cups twice a day and maintains his weight at about 70 lbs. We have also fed the High Priairie TOTW and no gas on that either, but it was very rich and we found that he would occasionally get the Big D on it. It really varied on the High Prairie - he would be great for a while and then unexpectedly have Big D. Things have been perfect on the Lamb based TOTW which is a litle lower in calories.
  10. Hide your shoes..... Glad the pup is ok and it ended up being a false alarm.
  11. I would call the E-Vet or Animal Poison control for instructions. My concern would be having a piece of styrofoam blocking the airway if it gets stuck coming back up if you indice vomiting.
  12. You are in our thoughts at this most difficult time.
  13. You will receive varying opinions here and it probably depends on any sensitivities your pup has. We had Rocket on the High Prairie for a long time, and reached a point where he had the Big D on it. We switched him to their new Lamb formula and he is doing very well on it. Others here swear by Pacific Stream for sensitive tummys, so you may have to experiment some. If you contact TOTW customer service through their website and request samples, they will send sample bags for you to try. Their customer service is very good, and you may even want to explain the issue and get their recommendation as well. Good luck and welcome to GT.
  14. We are very sorry for your loss.
  15. We never met Gustopher, but we feel devastated. He was one of the first hounds that we followed on GreyTalk, and was the inspiration for Rocket's "Pimp Hat" that Miss Donna made. We will miss that gorgeous boy, and are so sorry for your loss. Your tribute to him captured just how special he was to everyone.
  16. A heavy quilted moving blanket tucked in under the back and sides of the seat cushions across all 3 seats should take care of it. It should be heavy enough to keep it from going very far between the cusions, and tucked in tight it won't move much. You can get them at any U-Haul dealer or truck rental, Harbor Freight Stores, and some hardware stores. They even come in colors if you search online for "mover's blankets".
  17. We were at least a week into the new bag when the problems started, maybe even a little longer. We also noticed that he was scratching more than usual prior to getting sick, but there was no rhyme or reason for it. Like I said, it was just a thought and I knew you used TOTW. Hope Beth is feeling better soon.
  18. Come on Beth, you have to get better so you can play in the snow. Just curious and if you covered it here, I missed it - you didn't start a new bag of food recently did you? We just went through something similar with Rocket, with more Big D than vomiting, but the TOTW High Prairie he was on turned out to be the problem. Don't know why. He did great on it for over a year, and all of the sudden couldn't tolerate it. The problem started with a new bag of food. We switched him to the new Lamb TOTW and practically overnight everything cleared up. We are seeing even better results with the lamb than we did for a year on the High Prairie. We were in no way dissatisfied with High Prairie - he did great on it up until those new bags. I should mention that we did all the normal tests and meds at the vet before we figured it out, even trying a different bag with different production codes in case it was a one time thing. Just a thought - not trying to start a food discussion.
  19. I think I preferred thinking that 'only' 15 kilos were heading my way...not sure how I feel now thinking that 1056 feet are heading in my direction! lol It may not be that bad. Found dehydrated duck feet online and it appears they are about 1/2 oz each. Since these aren't dehydrated there will be more weight to them. Can't wait to hear what you end up with. PS - Can we all come to Fiji for Christmas?
  20. Hopefully it's just a bug or the meat that you mentioned. Feel better soon Beth.
  21. OK... i had to go there.....figuring 1/2 oz per duck foot (I'm guessing at the weight), you have 1056 duck feet coming.....Better get some Ziplocs.....
  22. We ended up switching to this about 4 or 5 weeks ago from the TOTW High Prairie. Either something changed in the High Priairie, or something in it was no longer agrreing with Rocket and we had pudding poops from 2 different bags. It was a very rich food, but we saw excellent results on it for over a year until this happened. We switched to the Lamb in an all at once changover (no transition). Not only did he firm right up, his coat is much softer than on the High Priarie. He looks much better, and his weight seems to stay more consistent on it.
  23. Wait until you see how shiny the teeth get after eating a raw turkey neck.
  24. The ASPCA Poison Control Center is located here in Central Illinois and is highly regarded here. Many of the people working the phones are Vet Med Students at University of Illinois, as well as Certified Vet Techs who have studied there. The Vet Med stundents are fantastic and Rocket loves going to the Vet Med facility. We have done meet and greets there for their open house, and he has also given blood there for research when they specifically needed Greyhound blood.
