  1. When we brought Rocket home, we put the crate in our bedroom and had him sleep in there for the first few weeks until we felt like he had adjusted to a routine. This kept him from wandering around while we were sleeping, and established his routine of sleeping in our room. We simply moved a dog bed into the crate spot when he was ready. We do keep the crate setup in another room in case he wants to go in there and hang out, especially while we are gone. It is primarily used as his "tanning booth" when the morning sun comes through that window now, but it's there if he needs a safe place. We also still crate him if someone is here working on the house, as he likes to help and really can get in the way. It also prevents an escape if a service person is going in and out repeatedly.
  2. Very sorry for your loss. Your tribute to Daisy was wonderful.
  3. Rocket will cover it by kicking up dirt with his back legs - but I haven't decided if this is actually covering it, or more of a "I just took a good poop happy dance..."
  4. We are very sorry for your loss.
  5. Are these beef ribs or pork? (I'm assuming beef but wanted to double check) We use marrow bones but need some variety here. Rocket has learned the art of getting the marrow out and leaving the bone unchewed.
  6. :lol Good to hear she is doing better. Rocket sends XOXO.... he is going to interview a potential adopter today so that one of his GPA Indy friends can have a new forever home.
  7. How is our girl Lexie doing? Any update from the new vet?
  8. Chris, I just saw this. We are so glad that the x-rays turned out ok. Give Holmes some extra cookies from Rocket, and some ear rubs from us.
  9. Much of the answer to this depends on getting the pup into a regular routine that works for both of you.. DW and I have worked from home the entire time that Rocket has been with us. This means that his routine includes going out after breakfast, at least one walk mid-day, another pee break around 4 or right after his dinner at 5 PM and either a quick outing or a walk before bedtime. If for some reason we are gone longer than a few hours during the day, we have someone come in to walk him mid-day just in case he needs to go and to stick with the routine to get his exercise.. On the flip side, this is also the same dog who can go out to pee at 5 PM and not go back out until noon the next day if he gets hard-headed about it or he decides that he doesn't like the weather.
  10. Not sure about the immodium in this case. Whatever is in there needs to come out, so immodium may not be the answer. She could need a larger dose of Flagyl for a longer period, We ended up giving a mega dose for over 3 weeks (prescribed by the vet) before Rocket's stomach got better the last time that he was sick. I would ask the vet about immodium before giving it in this case, and about continuing the Flagyl if her time on it is almost finished from the original prescription. Rocket hopes his girl is feeling better soon.
  11. She was gorgeous. We are very sorry for your loss.
  12. What???!!!! No Pictures?????!!!!!! :rofl :rofl
  13. II love that he got to go into town for a Timbit. I'll bet that you didn't have to ask twice to get him in the car. Feel better soon Charlie.
  14. As hard as it is to do, I try to buy nothing from China. Period. It's not feasible for most electronics, but we do try to research other things and find an alternative. Food of any type, human or doggy, no way!
  15. Just seeing this. Usually when this happens to Rocket, he does vomit some bile. All of the symptoms are the same thing we sometimes wake up to around 4 or 5 AM. We usually give him some bread or part of a hamburger roll and his stomach settles out. If it continues, we will sometimes also give a Pepcid or Gas-X if we hear squeals along with gurgles. It does usually seem to be an empty stomach. You might want to feed a small snack before bedtime, or reserve some dinner kibble and feed it before bed if this keeps happening. Hope Enzo is feeling better soon.
  16. Just 2 more questions that should be asked - not that they will be willing to share the info - Did the company (Diamond) change suppliers for any of the ingredients, especially the protein source? Did the suppliers source for any of the ingredients change? Technically, they may not have changed the formula, but it's possible they sourced ingredients somewhere else with a new supplier or due to supply issues used a new vendor. I've seen it before in a couple of the foods that we fed previoulsy - we'd usually find out after the poop was already squirting.....it wasn't a formula change, but color, smell, etc of the food was always noticeably different when this happened.
  17. Dr. Rocket said he will be over to check them out.... Rocket has developed a few spots that weren't there before. Vet isn't worried about them at all.
  18. Try My Pet Carnivore out of Indianapolis. They deliver to Chicago and the Suburbs on certain days each month. You have to meet them at the drop off point to pickup your order, but the prices are pretty good for the service and variety they provide.
  19. We have a greyhound snob here too - and the funny part is that even though he likes other greyhounds, there are times he's not interested in playing with them either. Just not interested...would rather sniff the area, or walk, or hang with humans. He's pretty unpredictable - I think it's what makes him a greyhound.
  20. We had almost 2 months of similar symptoms with Rocket. The I/D diet did not help him, and we ended up donating most of the bag to a shelter. After ruling out everything else, and taking a 6 week course of high dosage Flagyl with no real results, we turned to the people who run the Greyhound Boarding Facility that we use. They changed Rocket's food to Precise Foundation which they also use as the house food at the kennel. We really thought he wouldn't be able to eat it, as he did not do well on chicken based foods in the past. This food is a limited ingredient food. Wihin a few days his stools firmed up, and after a week to ten days he was completely back to normal. We have been using this food for about 11 weeks at this point, and he has done fantastic on it. His coat is softer than he's ever been, and he does not not shed anywhere near the amount he did on previous foods. According to the people at the boarding facility, they have yet to try this food with a dog having stomach issues and not have 100% improvement. The food has limited distribution, but seems to be in most distributor catalogs and can be ordered by the bag through most pet food stores. They also have a sensitive stomach food as well. I know you are still looking for the root of this problem. When Rocket was sick he got so skinny that I thought he was wasting away, and tried the new food after everything else had been ruled out. I realize that food may not be the issue, but if the I/D isn't helping, I figured you might be looking for another option, and wanted to let you know what worked for Rocket. Rocket and I hope Merlin is feeling better soon.
  21. Have a feeling he's just tired of the crate. The same thing happened with Rocket after a while. We leave him out 24/7 whether we are here or not. We have continued to leave the crate in place with the door open, but it is now referred to as his "Tanning Booth," since it is where he catches sunbeams in the morning. We leave the door open and he does hang out in there sometimes. It also allows us to still crate him when needed, usually when there is a service person going in and out to their truck or other times when someone is working in the house and we need him out from under foot.
  22. We usually give Rocket some bread, usually white bread of some type or a roll when he gets the gurgles in the middle of the night. It will usually settle out after he eats it. Rocket had stomach issues for about a month in Feb/March, and there was some red blood that was from straining. There was also a gelatin-like substance that looked bloody, which our vet advised was the inflamed stomach lining. Apparently that's how they get rid of the inflammation. The poop bags actually had a lot of blood and water in them when he passed the stomach lining. We had to do 2 rounds of Flagyl at a high dose to get him straightened out, and ended up changing food to a limited ingredient food. The "good stuff" was just too rich for his stomach to tolerate. We also fed scrambled eggs and very sticky rice for about 2 weeks until he could tolerate kibble again. It worked better than Ground Beef and Rice which we also tried. Hope Merlin feels better and it's nothing serious.
