Raw turkey necks are very effective at cleaning teeth. Some people give beef bones, some don't. Bones must be supervised at all times and you should have something of even higher value ready to trade up if you need to take the bone away. Some hounds are very possessive of bones when they get them. Best to have worked on the "drop it" command first. There are several types of toothpaste with various flavors in the pet store. Never use human toothpaste. There are water additives that clean teeth and freshen breath in the same section with the dog toothpaste. These work fairly well.

Is he wearing Pajamas or a coat? You might try that if you haven't. Rocket sleeps through the night with minimal movement / activity when wearing PJ's or a coat because he's nice and warm. On nights when he doesn't have PJ's or a coat on, he will wake up and pace, walk, shift positions, dig etc until he finds a warm spot.

Just curious if she was able to come and go freely to the crate when you tried leaving her out. Sometimes the crate is a safe space, and leaving the door open so the hound can come and go at will can help. Other with SA hounds will chime in. Rocket used to whine and howl when we were gone until we let him have the run of the house, then he was fine. Even after 4 years we still have the crate setup with the door open. He mostly uses it to tan when when the sun comes around to that window now, but it's there if he wants to go in for any reason. Good luck.

Try soaking the kibble in warm water for a while before serving so that it is softer. If his insides are irritated, hard kibble will irritate it more. We deal with this off and on with Rocket. Also, we have never had a test be positive for parasites or worms, but have had several times where de-worming resolved a similar issue. Positive tests are either luck and perfect timing, or a major problem where you can't help but have a positive test. There is no harm in de-worming if the issue continues, even if you don't have a positive test. Panacur will also help soothe the tummy in some cases.

Understood. We only had to deal with that when Rocket first arrived. He would howl or whine in his crate. Once he had the run of the house when we were gone, he could have cared less so we've not had to deal with it since. I am just used to a completely different dynamic when we head for the door.

Only watched Capri Goodbye but no one even acknowledged her when you left (couldn't hear it if you did). When we leave there is always a big commotion because Rocket assumes that he is going somewhere with us, even if he isn't. We always pet him, tell him bye and that he has to "stay here." "Stay here" is his cue that he isn't going, but he is always eager to try and get us to say he can go. Capri looked very depressed in that video. tail tucked, and disinterested. I was shocked because it's a total 180 from what either of us has to deal with if we put our coats or shoes on. I didn't see any of the greyhound energy that I'm used to seeing when there is activity in the house. Hope you can get this worked out.

I would watch for bruising, and if he'll let you, maybe apply a cold pack (crushed ice in a ziploc inside a towel) a few times. Unless he's yelping every time he moves, starts limping all the time, or the leg swells, I doubt that I would go to the e-vet based on what you've posted so far. Good luck to you and your boy.

Sounds to me like the sleep startle may be worse than you think. Rocket has had sleep startle since he arrived. Normally walking past his bed in the middle of the night isn't a problem, unless he is in a deep sleep. I have had him start to growl when I get close enough to put a blanket on him. I don't think he is awake at that point but senses someone nearby. I usually just tell him it's okay, and he recognizes my voice. No more growling. We make it a rule to not walk close enough that he might startle and be able to grab a leg. I often just say something like "hey buddy" when I'm walking by in the middle of the night and he doesn't react, but just keeps sleeping. The two times he has bitten was when someone actually touched him while sound asleep. Both times his eyes were open, but he was sound asleep both times. Don;t let the open eyes fool you.

She was just finding a way to make you bow down to her one more time. That's what made her "The Duchess."

I would definitely have him checked and see what your vet says about doing a Thyroid panel. Could be something out of whack. As far as one walk - that's not really a problem as long as he is able to go out otherwise when he needs to. In extreme weather we only do one walk a day (or no walks) but we also have a fenced area that is just for turnouts. Quick trip outside to do whatever, and he comes right back to the door.
