  1. My first greyhound was aggressive to other dogs and sometimes to people. I did my best with him over the years, but he was an only dog for most of his life. I have no children, I separated him from children if they were in the home, and separated him from other dogs in the home if unattended. I also couldn't take him to a lot of places, pet stores, parks, etc. if there were a lot of other dogs around. I wouldn't consider him to have had serious aggression, but definitely moderate aggression and there were some trying times in the 7 years I had him. That being said, he was the love of my life and I couldn't imagine him ever being with anyone else but me. It was just right for some reason, but my life was also the right situation for him. Good luck with your decision, I now how hard it is.
  2. I use Petzlife gel and CET enzymatic toothpaste together on the toothbrush. The CET doesn't smell greyt, so the combination of the two gives them fresher breath.
  3. Razzy is having the same issue. Extremely itchy eyes, neck, plus a few other spots. Her skin is not dry, and she's been doing well on her food for several months. I don't know what to do for my poor itchy girl
  4. Razzy has been extremely itchy lately on very specific parts of her body. Most are spots she can lick, but there is a big red spot on her neck that she only gets with her toes; I'm wondering if I could put a little hydrocortisone on it while we figure out the root of the issue?
  5. I'm not sure about the long-term effects of the metro, but I know before Ducky was diagnosed with IBD & PLE, the Metro didn't control the diarrhea, so we had to try other things, including a strict diet & other meds. The Natural Balance LID Venison worked well for him for a while. When that stopped working we went to Science Diet d/d vension & z/d allergen foods. He also got B12 shots. It is a very frustrating disease and takes a lot of trial & error. There is another forum I found helpful while we were going through it:Canine Lymphangiectasia Support Good luck!
  6. Does anyone know a good supplement for dry, itchy, possibly allergic skin? Razzy also has a very sensitive tummy, so I'm not sure fish oil would be the best bet. She does get Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream food, so that does have omega-3's in it. She is very red/itchy around her eyes, neck & bum (all places she scratches/licks a lot).
  7. I've had two tail amputees. One was from getting shut in a door (before we had him, so I do not know the details of the injury), and our other snapped a vertebrae in his tail from being too happy. The strange thing was, it didn't bleed, but literally snapped so the bone was protruding. We had to amputate. What I was surprised was how much they took off. It was much higher from the break, but supposedly they needed to do that to be able to stitch it properly, but I was not happy about that. My poor baby boy: It looked a lot better once the fur grew back.
  8. Quiet Man got Coccidia from eating rabbit poop. Since it's impossible to clean it up since there are so many pellets, a muzzle with stool guard is your best bet.
  9. I think it really depends on the dog. I've had 4 greyhounds, 2 were never crated, 2 were. The first crated boy ending up never really needing it, but I knew nothing about him, and wanted to make sure he was okay with my other dog and my house. I crated him for about two weeks. It actually makes me laugh now, because he ended up being the best dog EVER and really never needed to be crated, but you never know. My current girl has been crated since we brought her home in July. She has not yet proven herself to be safe outside the crate. She chews everything and has gotten into so much that could've potentially hurt her, and that's when we are there with her! The crate is safer for her right now, and she now loves going in it because she always gets some tasty treats in her kong when she goes in. I hope to let her have run of the house someday, but she is not ready for that yet. No matter what people think of crating vs not-crating, etc, we owe it to her to keep her safe, and right now, the crate is the best way to do that. Good Luck
  10. Glad Zero is okay! Better to be safe than sorry in those situations.
  11. It's probably not a corn, because they are usually right on the pad itself. Not sure what it is, maybe he got something stuck in there?
  12. I use the gel. It has a minty smell. I brush her teeth with a mix of the Petzlife and the CET toothpaste. I agree that the toothpaste alone does not make for fresh breath. Adding the Petzlife really helps!
  13. I have had greyt success with Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream for my girl. I don't know if you also have Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance there? they make a Limited Ingredient Diet, and the Venison & Sweet Potato has also worked well for me in the past.
  14. You need to introduce the bootie slowly. Give him a treat when you put it on. Keep it on for 5 min., then give him a treat when you take it off. Next time do 10 min, 15 min. etc. Eventually he may associate the bootie with treats and walks & be excited for you to put it on. Quiet Man had a corn and the bootie was the only thing that brought him comfort. He soon learned that the bootie meant a walk and he slid hid foot into it willingly! Good luck
  15. Jordan, I'm so sorry! How old is Dandi? We went through this with Ducky at age 12. It is an awful roller coaster ride. Sending positive wishes to you & your pack.
  16. Any food transition should be very gradual, and yes, it could be just adjusting to his new environment. Two foods my dogs have had success with for loose stools are Nature Balance Limited Ingredient Venison & Sweet Potato, and Taste of The Wild Pacific Stream. Neither are cheap, but worth it if your dog does well on it.
  17. Yay Matchbox!! Good boy! I'm hoping one day Razzy will "graduate" out of her crate too!
  18. I would agree with the Majestic spook harness, although I'm not sure I'd leave it on in the crate.

    Aljo Avalanche

I've been trying to find the right words or pictures to sum up my love for Avalanche. I got the privilege of spending a lot of time with him and his brother Safari over the years. He was nicknamed my boyfriend and I will miss him so much. Here is a favorite picture of Ave with Safari on the "lovesac", a favorite bed. Melissa, I am so sorry and grieving with you. He was a truly special boy who will never be forgotten.
  20. I've had two dogs with soft stool issues; the foods that have worked re Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diet Venison & Sweet Potato, and Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. It's tough because changing food takes times. For our new girl, we also added a supplement called Fresh Digest (sold at Petco) and Metamucil. This combination, along with occasional pumpkin, solved her soft stool problem. For our previous dog, the food change helped, but ultimately he had IBD that was managed but never cured
  21. I have used a coupler to attach the harness to the collar in the event one of them slipped off. Plus, martingale's are so pretty!
  22. With my first three, I always walked first, then feed an hour later. With my new girl, I feed first, then walk an hour later. Having a GSD that died from bloat, I am very strict about this, even a slow walk, or if they are panting. To each his own, but I always stick to my one hour rule.
  23. Congratulations Atomic!! You landed with a greyt family
  24. iWell, she's pooping and eating and drinking, no sign yet of the marker. We thought we'd distract her with a new screaming monkey, the whole inside lasted about 60 seconds, and now she's eaten one of his eyes. Hence, her kennel muzzle has been brought back out
