  1. I just noticed a red growth and bleeding on Quiet Man's gum. I was not able to get a clear photo of it, this is the best I could do. The tooth that is yellow/black that it's on has a slab fracture on it from years ago that the vet has looked at and seemed fine, although discolored. His gums do bleed back there sometimes when I brush which I admit is not very often, and that's the only reason I discovered this so I don't know how long it's been there. With it being Christmas Eve the earliest I could call my vet is on Friday. I'm just wondering if any one had any thoughts as to what it might be. I'm hoping just a bad case of gingivitis and not a tumor of some sort, although it does look like it is growing out of the gum and onto the tooth
  2. Could it be the start of a corn? When QM started limping on his, I could barely see it, looked like a tiny black dot on the bottom of his right front pad. After a year it has turned into a nasty corn that won't go away!
  3. My foster is 12 1/2 and just had a successful dental (in July). His teeth look fantastic. I don't know what they looked like before, but couldn't have been all that bad and I wondered why the former owner did it?
  4. Oh no Robin! How awful! Hope she feels better soon.....
  5. figures, it's rainy stay-in kind of weekend! I guess this will force me to do some chores.....sigh......
  6. I am so sorry, he was the sweetest boy. We'll never forget him and I'm sure he'll never forget Quiet Man, but for the wrong reasons I'm afraid
  7. Oh Rizzo, your mom made me do this... But I promise they are happy tears! We are so proud of you and can't wait to hang out with you in Dewey! (If your dad will let Quiet Man disrupt your peaceful beach lounging!)
  8. Even if you don't think it's a corn, the Therapaw should help with the limping and help to keep it cleaner on walks.
  9. Quiet Man's corn started out just like what you described, and that was a year ago, He had an intermittent limp on pavement, tiny black dot, etc. Mt vet also thought a foreign object had gotten in there (he doesn't have experience with corns). A year later it's worse than ever, and the only thing that seems to help is the Therapaw which has been a godsend. If it is a corn, it will grow slowly and come to the surface, you can pick it out, hull it out, pumice it down, put duct tape on it to soften it, but nothing seems to make it go away forever I'm afraid
  10. Laura that is a greyt story and it really does sound like fate! I'm thrilled that Vinny is working out in your home and it is amazing how quickly these dogs take over our lives!
  11. That is scary Carla, and it's amazing how quickly things can escalate, it's good you were right there. Hopefully this was just a one time "misunderstanding" between brothers and all will be well from here on out!
  12. Quiet Man had his hulled, but it provided no relief. The only thing that seems to provide relief is wearing a Thera-a-paw
  13. When Quiet Man had Coccidia my vet & I suspected it was caused by his constant rabbit poop eating. I muzzled him with a poop guard on it for a while, til the rabbit went away
  14. Thank you! I have also heard that giving simethicone, the ingredient in gas relievers such as Phazyme can sometimes slow the bloating. This is not meant as a cure, but something to relieve the pressure while you are getting them to the vet. I always keep it on hand.
  15. Can everyone explain what exactly you use Pepcid for? I have a foster who is on it twice daily, I think for vomiting and/or diarrhea. He actually has had greyt poops and only vomited once in a week so I'm wondering if I should just continue with it?

What a wonderful tribute to a very special boy. He will be missed by all of us.
  17. My only experience with corns is on the bottom of the pad itself, not in between the toes, and they are very hard.
  18. Carolyn, we're thinking about you during this difficult time. -Jen & QM
  19. I think it depends, Quiet Man raced til he was at least 4 1/2 - 5 years old, he's 11, almost 12 now and aging well. I don't think he had any track injuries, but I don't know for sure.
  20. Your vet may recommend a booster rabies shot. Quiet Man bit a skunk and he had to have a booster by law even though he was up to date on rabies.
  21. I hate corns!! I've been battling the same thing you have! Thera-paws have saved my life!
  22. It does take time to get them used to it. The first few times I had to pull over to untangle him, and once I was in a spot where I could not pull over and he panicked and tried to chew through the seat belt! Try starting slow, offer treats, take a 10 minute ride, then increase with time, keep offering treats! What I do w/ my Subaru wagon is put one seat down, one seat up, so it creates a small area he has to stay in, and he has to stay facing forward. He has gotten totally used to this over time.
  23. Thanks! I used Batmom's method last night & it worked really well. Any ideas on how long to soak for and for how many days? The corn is coming apart from the pad on one side, if I can just get it to separate from the other side I can get a lot of it out. My poor boy, if he was more tolerant I'd just pcik & pick until I got it out.
