  1. You don't know how HAPPY it makes me to see you and Mooney doing that!!! Greyhounds might be sighthounds but hey! they can be GREYT at scent work to! People don't usually appreciate just how talented our hounds are. My Octane LOVES scent detection and titled in the first two trials he ran! You and Mooney just keep training and rising up and gaining experience and who knows where you could wind up. You could title him or certify and do search and rescue maybe or just have fun. He is truly a gifted hound and a greyt ambassador for just how talented our houndies truly are. Thank you very much for posting the videos. They were greyt! And kudos to Team Mooney!
  2. IMO she is exhibiting PAIN from a spinal issue. Probably a bad disk. I have had several houndies with back/neck issues. It does not get "better" per se but can be managed pretty good with the right medication protocol. I generally used Robaxin and tramadol (though people now will tell you Tramadol doesn't help) and supplements like chrondroitan sulfate and glucosamine. They can do quite well once you address the pain/inflammation. I would definitely restrict activity until she improves significantly or you find out a more definitive diagnosis. If it is something serious like a bulging disk then running/jumping could take them down. I know. I had 2 non-ambulatory hounds at the same time once. Good luck. Start by diagnosing what is causing the pain; give the appropriate meds and then all should be well so don't despair. You might need to switch vets. It is extremely difficult to find competent vet care in the region where I live and currently have to drive over 60 miles one way to find one that is caring and competent.
  3. Yep. Now all we need is to find a greyhound party that has a beautiful toofer contest!
  4. He's a handsome fellow. I love black houndies. They are little furnaces in the winter and don't seek covers or coats and heat like "regular" colored houndies hehe.
  5. A happy boy with his toy!!!!! Great pics and great story. Thanks for sharing. PS- thats funny how LambChop hits him in the face when he shakes her

  7. How wonderful! You are blessed. I adopted a mother daughter pair and it was one of the best things I ever did in my life. They KNEW each other immediately-even after having been separated in their careers for years. The daughter Bobber was always with her Mom Momma Seabird and would give her little gifts all the time-like her personal bully stick. It was a beautiful sermon on love to watch them.
  8. Awesome story and video! I enjoyed it so much. Greyhounds running and doing their thing always make me 'trance".
  9. She's wonderful and very pretty. "Cow doggies" rock! My Octane is a Djays Octane (famous sire of many cowdogs) cowdoggy. BTW if you go to the Greyhound Racing & Breeding Database there may be a web page for your hound with tons of info on pedigree, pictures, even video of some races maybe. A cool place to find out more about your special girl if they have her up yet.
  10. So beautiful! What a gorgeous black coat-like the finest velvet.
  11. Very moving. A powerful remembrance.
  12. My heart is breaking for you. And oh what a beautiful and moving tribute! Sending love and peace and my deepest sympathy. The Way In the darkness I turned to go; my last day's done; I'll miss you so. No time even to say goodbye or to lock the tears spilling from your eyes. That's when I heard you call my name; I knew right then I must turn back to help ease your pain. Since I've no voice with which to speak, its whispers in your dreams I'll make. Ease your heart and rest your mind, my time with you was the best of kind. I couldn't have asked for a better friend, we've shared our journey to the very end. There's one final thing you need to know, I'll whisper in your ear before I go....."I'm leaving first to find the way...so I can lead you back here with me on your last day." -(SLong)
  13. They don’t know how many times we’ve looked into each others eyes. They don’t know how many times Slim was the only one by my side. They don’t know that EVERY night we were together-we were never separated not even for a single day. They don’t know how much you changed me, They don’t know how many times I held your snout shut so I could kiss you without getting bit. They don’t know how many times I talked to you-the only one who really listened. They don’t know that it was just you who knew when I was in pain. They don’t know that if things went wrong, the only one who didn’t go was you. They don’t know that you trusted me even though humans had pitifully starved and abused you before we met. They don’t know that you trusted me in every moment of your life-even the last ones. They don’t know how much we love each other. I love you more than any other living being-ever. They don’t know how many times the scene of you being led off to surgery, our last embrace, has been played over and over in my mind. They don’t know how brave and courageous you were…the blood on the inside of the door from your injured mouth when you defended our home from burglars one day while I was at work. They didn’t see you charge forward and circle me to keep me safe and defend me from a huge street dog that weighed twice what you did running loose that growled and aggressed on me. They didn’t know what a brave fighter you were and how you came back from the dead THREE times that horrible night after surgery; how stressed the vets were to see you suffer like that and not give in. You had cheated death so many times I had to give you EVERY opportunity to be victorious again because YOU were truly NEVER out of any fight. They don’t know how you have been faithful all these years and have guided and taught me things I needed to learn from the other side. Important things I could learn from no other. They don’t know the many signs and tangible gifts you leave me all the time. How I need them. How I collect them and journal them because they are special above all else being from you. They don’t know how you help me in so many ways- training the other dogs, protecting our home and us, teaching me important things I need to learn that only you can. They don’t know that I think of you every day-because you are with me everyday still. They don’t know that I wear your tag around my neck ever since you crossed over because it has your energy. They just don’t know that you are inextricably part of my soul, and that you go with me wherever I am. I may not see you but I know that you are there. I know that my eyes were opened and my life really started the day I met you. They don’t know that you watch over us much as you did in life, and that moment when I step just barely outside of death or disaster, it's because you moved my feet or you stopped short in front of me as you did in life. They don’t know that a dog like you is something only given to a few people. They are a gift from God and, though they're with us only a short time, they never really leave us. They are loyalty and love perfected, and once we are graced with that sort of love we can never lose it. It can never and will NEVER go away. For these brave souls trade their hearts for ours, and they beat together beyond sickness, beyond death. They are ours, and we are theirs, for every sunrise and every sunset, until we are once again united- in eternity. SLIM Fearless, Faithful Loves, Protects, Leads My soulmate from the spirit world RUTHLESS With love…… SYOTOS
