  1. I trim the least amount with the clippers and then I use a nail file (any pet store has one) and file them down. The file is also good on the dew claws.
  2. The dog will soon learn your schedules. He should fit into your schedule not the other way around or else you will find yourself having to hire someone ot come out all the time. 4-5 hours seems reasonable to leave him. I agree with others by keeping him busy with a frozen kong. Give him a long walk before you leave to tire him out. Good luck and enjoy the new pup. Lexie was very very shy when we got her and I kept expecting the anxiety and it never came til 4 years later...lol. Dogs can pick up on your anxiety too so try and relax.
  3. Lexie was on a small dose last week for her stitches. I didn't notice any color changes.
  4. I don't know about Drontal but Lexie was on Tylan for a few years. It worked wonders for her. Hopefully someone will know.
  5. What about cooked chicken livers then food process it so it is like baby food?((((hugs to you))))))))))))))
  6. Thanks all, the long sock seems to be working, I'll take it off a few hours when I can watch her. I am going to have her wear it when she sleeps and see what happens. I hope I can sleep!..lol
  7. We had to go to the evet since it was labor day weekend. They only had one evet and 9 dogs were ahead of us. I think they wanted to do things quickly. They also didn't want to sedate her. They just gave her a numbing shot. After I saw all those staples, if there is ever another times she needs to be patched up I would insist on stitches instead. I think stitches close the wound better but I am not a vet. It is just my opinion.
  8. Well I tried the muzzle..Forget that!!.lol. She is taking the side of her foot with the stitches and trying to tear the muzzle off. Sock is on now. We will see how that works. I have the therapaw for outside. I just hate to have her wear it all day since the vet wants her to "air" it out. Maybe I should hire a neighborhood kid to dog sit and say "leave it" 200 times a day while I get out of the house...lol
  9. All great suggestions, Thanks! I don't have a muzzle with a stool guard but I guess I could duct tape it. I like the sock idea. Those staples look so gross to me. She can't snag them on anything can she? We tried the peanut butter but she licked the jar then her foot then the jar then her foot..lol
  10. Lexie had her bandage taken off (9 staples put in) Vet wants to "air it out for another week before staples removed. She can reach through the eliz collar. She is constantly licking it which is a no no. I will use the theraboot at night but is there anything iI can use so it doesn't have to be covered during the day. If she ever needs to be stiched again I would do stitches, The staples look so painful She was crying when they took the bandage off and her poor skin all around it is red and raw from the taping. The staples are by the side of her paw. She will take a baby sock off. Any suggestions are welcome!
  11. I take Lexie's on and off without adjusting it. You should be able to do that. I never tried a buckle collar.
  12. When we first got Lexie she was the same way. As we would walk out the door she had to scope around to see if anyone was coming..lol. I made her walk just up the street, then came home. I would increase after a week. I also made sure I was out there if the school bus came by or kids then gave her a treat. It will take awhile..even months but everyday just insist on walking. It does work. Lexie now loves the school bus and kids.
  13. I have never heard of that. I will be interested in the answer too. I only brush the outside.
  14. Maybe try a probiotic? The vetri probiotic chews work great for Lexie. I am such a pooper picker upper pro I just hold the plastic bag kind of flat right under the dog while she goes And Yes, I missed once in the 5 years we have had Lexie
  15. Wow!! I wish I would of known about "kennel up" because when we first got Lexie it took me forever to get her to jump in the car. Excellent topic :hehe
  16. I went to the vet today. He said it is some kind of granuloma. Keep applying neosporin and leave uncovered. Lexie wore a summer hat to their office. It was a big hit. I also asked the vet if there was anything I could do for her squirrel addiction , perhaps an AA meeting for small animal addictions? He just laughed soooo hard. :rofl Her weight was great...57
  17. So sorry for you loss. ((((((hugs))))) to you and your family.
  18. She really isnt licking the spot. I called the vet and he has an appointment on Thursday so if it doesn't look any better I will take her in. I need to weigh her anyway. I love going there cause they announce the weight in the lobby and then I say " Lexie,u need to go on a diet" and everyone in the lobby looks at me like i am crazy (btw, lexie is very trim)
  19. What is a lick granuloma? She hardly licks it at all. It does look a lot less red today.
  20. I mostly use the trymp liquid stuff.I have used neosporin before but the try liquid always seems to work faster but that is interesting to know.
