  1. Hi Carolyn, I don't check in very often but today I did and I looked for your topics and found that sad news of Spiff's passing. I'm so very sorry... Ivy, who is in is 13th year of life is doing more or less fine with those same hind leg problems but we still manage it without medication only joint health supplements. He has lost poop control but still loves little walks and eating... Greetings, Marion
  2. Many good vibs coming Jackson's way from Spain...still hoping it's nothing serious.
  3. I just checked in and I'm again overwhelmed by your so kind and supportive replies! I know that home made or raw diets help reduce stool volume and I give him often home cooked. He loves eating and gets all excited when it's breakfast and evening meal time. I still take him to his beloved beach twice per week and he walks about 30 minutes perfectly. Then he gets tired and I put him in the car with a piece of hard bread where he waits resting while I play 30 minutes more with sweet Soldi. I'm still reluctant to give him the Pred as it's kind of the beginning of the end. My GSD was on Pred and he was 'fine' for 7 weeks then his decline went very quickly... Thanks for all your replies! Marion
  4. Thanks for your replies! Normally in the house he looses the first one or two still harder stools. But when we walk then he'll loose sometimes till 15 little soft poops. Ivy gets kibble with home made food. The day he gets only home made (turkey with rice) he poops less. When it's rainy he has a harder time to walk. He hates rain. My washing machine is really wonderful as most of the laundry consists of blankets and beds of Ivy. The machine is already 18 years old.
  5. My 12 and a half years old male 'Ivy' has had hind leg problems for quite a while due to a degerative spine problem. He has problems getting up stairs, doesn't like to go down stairs and often falls aside when pooping. I have to help him back on his feet as he can't manage that by himself anymore. He poops while walking. I had to carpet the kitchen as he doesn't go down the stairs of the main entrance of the house anymore. The kitchen has a back-entrance where he can go out without using the stairs. But when we go for a walk, he has to step down again 3 steps which he can manage at the moment. He still jumps on my bed and into the car and he can go for little walks. I still take him to the beach. The biggest problem is that he has lost poop control. I have to watch him all day long to just take him out quickly when it seems that he can't hold it. In the morning first thing I jump out of the bed and take him directly to the garden. Sometimes I'm lucky, sometimes he has lost the poop on the carpet already. It's really hard above all for my husband who is not a dog person. Nevertheless Ivy has a good appetite and seems to be happy. BUT I cannot leave him more than 3 hours alone and my life is totally focussed on his needs. Somebody is in that situation?
  6. Thanks for all your useful replies again! Nancy and Kathy...thanks for your nice words! I'll try to check in a bit more often. Some of us have been members here for a really long time already...it's nice to see that. Greetings, Marion
  7. You are so sweet Pat...thanks for your offer to send me Abreva but I might first try the tea tree oil option. It's nice to see that I'm not forgotten here on GT... I thank you all for your useful replies...we'll see if the stupid corn comes back. Duct tape worked for me when Soldi had a corn several years ago which did NOT come back. This time I hulled this new corn, it came back and I hulled it again, we'll see... At the moment I've put Bag Balm on it... Thanks to you all, greetings, Marion
  8. Well, on sweet Soldi's pad a nasty corn arose. I hulled it, but within a few weeks it just came back. Today I hulled it again...what can I put on the little clean hole to kill the virus that causes the corn? I read an old post of Chris (Dogfather) that he puts some bleqach on the hole? But he talked about a seed wart. Is there any difference between a seed wart and a corn? Is there anything natural to kill the virus?
  9. Dear Judy, I just saw this terrible news and I'm in shock! You cannot imagine how sorry I am reading the whole devastating story of your lovely Renie. You must be so terribly sad and my thoughts are with you. The pic of her is so adorable... Run free sweetheart, Renie :bighug
  10. I just checked in and saw this sad news! I'm so sorry Cathie, that you lost your lovely Annie!
  11. I think it's not a big deal to have a female in heat. My Soldi is not spayed and I have gone through 9 heat periods (she's 9 years old and enters in heat once per year!) and no problem. Her blood loss is minimum and she cleans herself up all the time. In the heat season I keep her on-leash during the third week when she's getting 'interesting' for the male world, but that's it. Where is the problem?
  12. I'm so very sorry for your loss... Run free sweetheart... :gh_run

  17. Jazz is so darn adorable...I'm so sorry for your loss! I keep you and Jazz in my thoughts...by the way, my 12 years old Greyhound 'Ivy' is going the same road as you Jazz. He still jumps into the car and on the bed and does little walks, but his back legs often don't obey him, he falls over when pooping, stumbles often and it's so sad to look at him getting so awkward. His appetite is very good, he enjoys eating, smelling pees, barking and walking a bit, but has difficulties to stand up, lay down etc.
  18. I hope Asia recovers well and will get used to her new 3 leg situation without too much suffering! My best wishes for you both!
  19. It seems incredible that 3 years have passed already...it's impossible not to miss such a sweet soul, my thoughts are with you, Michelle, Hugs, Marion

  22. I'm so very sorry for your loss... Run free sweetheart!
  23. I'm so very sorry that you are in that tragic situation...my hounds would not be candidates for amputation either, so my recommendation is to try to keep her pain controlled with meds and spoil her all you can. Best wishes and hugs to you, Marion
