    Rusty

Oh my God...how could I miss this tragic news? I'm shocked to read about my favourite GT-dog's passing...yes. I have tears in my eyes...I'm so sorry for your loss! Run free beautiful Rusty
  2. Thanks for posting the article! I think that one hasn't been posted yet...
  3. Here's another article: http://www.thedogplace.com/Articles/DogCar...ochip.RDOWS.htm
  4. Thanks for the info! But it seems that there are also adverse reactions not only in case of implantation on a vaccine area...like it says in the article: [url="However, despite clear advantages over other identification techniques, some adverse reactions to microchips have been recorded.16,17 Some cases of soft-tissue tumors surrounding a microchip have been described in laboratory mice and rats.2,7,19 All the tumors described in these papers were mesenchymal in origin and contained embedded microchips. The mechanism of carcinogenicity was ascribed to a foreign-body–induced tumorigenesis.7 Recently, a case of liposarcoma embedding the microchip (Indexel, Merial) was described in a dog.22 In the present case, the microchip was not embedded within the tumor but was found intimately adjacent to it.
  5. I have read several times recently that implanted microchips caused tumors in mice and some dogs developped cancer...could somebody post some info?
  6. Unfortunately, there can be a bit to worry about. No, neutered males cannot impregnate a bitch, but they can breed her. And sometimes, that can cause injury, either from the bitch not being receptive, therefore snapping at the male, or an inexperienced male being aggressive in the way he mounts her, or separates a tie. Inexperienced owners contribute to this by not knowing what to expect. Mind you, the above scenarios are rare, but with dogs who have never been bred, and people who have never dealt with breeding dogs, it can lead to injury. My suggestion would be to separate her from the male, whenever possible. At the very least, crate her or the boys... I have never seen a bitch that is not receptive beeing mounted successfully by a male... If your neutered males are VERY interested it's better to separate them for those few days...normally even intact males don't care unless the bitch is really receptive...
  7. My Greyhounds 'Ivy' (male) and Soldi (female) are both intact. Soldi enters in heat once per year. Her heat cycle lasts normally about 22 days...the first 12 days Ivy doesn't show any interest in Soldi. Then he gets interested on day 13 to 17 and that's it. I separate them during that time...no whining, no trauma. Soldi is very clean and doesn't bleed much. I'm lucky that no males ever followed us on our walks... I suppose your males are neutered, so what do you worry about? Just keep her on-leash on your walks and she'll be fine... By the way...my hounds are 8 (soldi) and 11 (Ivy) years old. I have had them since puppy age...
  8. Could that be 'Alabama Rot?' I'm sorry that you have to go through this and hope that he'll recover quickly whatever disease it is...
  9. Fantastic pictures, Ilse...keep them coming...
  10. My very best wishes for sweet Lacey Lane! I'm thinking of you and Lacey Lane...
  11. I'm glad that you have your hound back home! I would only bandage the sore feet with a soft sterile cotton bandage during the walks...at home I would leave the pads without bandage. Three times per day I would desinfect the pads. By the way...maybe you could put some Bag Balm on the pads?
  12. I don't use preventive medications...I only use a flea treatment when my hounds need one for having fleas. They don't have fleas normally...Heartworm is not an issue over here, so no preventive treatment needed.
  13. Herzlich Willkommen bei GREYTALK, Ilse...Welcome! I'm very glad to see you here. There are many very nice people on this Board, and I hope you'll enjoy the time here, Hugs to your beautiful Lilifee and Fini!
  14. Dear Patty, you cannot imagine how much I think about you and Fred and Lacey Lane...I send you many, many good vibrations and hope with all my heart some miracle to happen... Best wishes for you, Fred and your beloved Lacey Lane...
  15. I have already made some similar experiences with vets over here, which led to the conclusion that veterinarians often make things worse instead of better. My friend's Irish Setter was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma by a local vet and his owners were told that the dog had 2 more months to live. Devastated by that terrible news they got a second opnion and the result was that the dog had Arthritis and lived for many more years... My Borzoi was misdiagnosed when he had a tick disease. The treatment was too late...he died. My Greyhound was misdiagnosed with IBD and according to the vets he should have undergone endoscopy and Cortison treatment for a lifetime...fortunately I didn't believe it and just took my hound off ALL chemicals and unnecessary meds which mixed her organism up, didn't vaccine her anymore and gave her a home made diet... My hound never, ever got bloody stools again...
  16. My male 'Ivy' (he's intact) gets some whitish discharge without smell every now and then...nothing to worry about.
  17. Many good thoughts for Lacey Lane!

    My Milly

I'm so sorry for the so sudden loss of your sweet Milly...
  19. My very best wishes for your father and Bodie!
  20. He's so beautiful but the pictures reflect his sadness...I think it's very normal that he's depressed without a leg maybe he's in pain too and furthermore his only joy which is eating tasty food has become a hurting problem too... the pics break my heart...
  21. That 'Rusty-face' is just heartbreaking! He's so darn adorable! I wish him the very best and all my good thoughts are coming his way from Spain... Get well, precious boy!
  22. I suppose it hurts because you squeezed it with the tweezers...I personally would wait a few days before heading to a vet. Maybe it goes away on its own without manipulation...If it gets bigger and more painful I would let a vet have a look on it...
  23. That is so sad news...you are in my thoughts, I'm so very sorry for your loss.
