  1. Thinking of my Lexi who only got to have 1 Christmas in her forever home. I wish she could have had more.
  2. My Lexi was diagnosed last year. It was diagnosed by xray. I passed on the biopsy. My vet & a 2nd greyhound savy vet both felt it was 99% cancer. I choose not to amputate for many reasons - cost, quality of life, length of time it would have given my Lexi. I just took some time off from work, spoiled her as much a I could & had her put to sleep a few weeks later. She was just in too much pain. It is not easy & I hope not to go through it for quite some time. Read as much as you can & make the decision that is right for the dog & your family. Patty
  3. When Zim went through a phase where she was terrified of the car I tried everything under the sun to get her in the car. Finally I just gave up & just starting picking her up & putting her in. She eventually got over this thank goodness. Also I would muzzle for safety since she is hurt & scared. Good luck & I hope her wound is getting better.
  4. Yes Zim does this if I leave her with someone for a sleep over. It's hard to get them to take her again due to this
  5. I have no advice but I feel for you. My Patches gets diarrhea frequently; but not like your describing. Hope it resolves quickly.
  6. So sorry to read this Barbara; it seem so fast. He is at peace but I know how hard it can be. I'll be thinking of you & your mother. She must be so sad
  7. Oh dear. You have your hands full. Try to have a nice holiday. You really are dedicated to your dogs
  8. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I've been bitten & it is very upsetting. There is no way I could have Zim up on the bed with Patches. She is the head of this house (at least she thinks she is) & was here first. I agree that it my have been misdirected aggression. That said you have to be very careful that no one else including herself gets hurt. I also asked for thyroid testing when I was going through this & 2 vets said the same as yours. That thyroid disease is overdiagnosed & usually not the cause. If the vet thought some type of tumor did he suggest a CT/MRI scan. No further bed or couch priviledges. Can they be separated some way in your room at night so your new girl does not get bitten? Best of luck. I know how upsetting this is.
  9. How old is he? Mine have days of being more lazy then normal But as long as they are eating well, no vomit or diarrhea I try not to pay too much attention. Zim turned 5 this past May & she sleeps more now than before which is a good thing if you knew Zim
  10. The few times I've had to give a sample for Zim they did do a bladder tap. They discouraged me from bringing in a sample from home. Do dogs have prostrates? Maybe that is the problem now that QM is in the double digits for age.
  11. I don't mean to worry you but I would insist on xrays.
  12. You need to check all 4 of the dogs pads to see if see anything; signs of infection, cuts, corns. Also does he have an old injury? Maybe contact your adoption group & ask if he was recently adopted.
  13. I used Banfield in Mass in August for my greys check up. I went to the walk in clinic where you have no appointment but can still get a full check up. I was thoroughly pleased. My bill was $89.00, they called me within an hour to let me know the heart guard testing was negative and did not push for a billion tests. They actually told me I did not need the heartguard testing but I did it anyway. If I went to my local vet the bill easily would have been $300.00. Also I got some shopping done while waiting
  14. Is there a way for an oncologist to look at both sets of xrays? Maybe transmit them to OSU? That what I did when my brood started limping to get a 2nd opinion. Praying all is ok with Pollie.
  15. Maybe I missed it has she had any blood work done? Unexplained bruising & swelling- I would think she would need some lab work...
  16. Having gone through this last winter you will be in my thoughts today. Remember you are doing what you think is best for Daisy & your family.
  17. I'm assuming she has been checked for worms that could be causing GI distress?
  18. Although I have not been invovled for a very long with the breed my 2 are VERY healthy. I feel so lucky when I read H&M. As I've said before I come here before going to the vet Less expensive that way.
  19. I never knew there was a 6 month vaccine until Zim's last check up. I've only given the 1 year & board my greys on a fairly regular basis (in home situation) & have never had a problem or illness. I'll be sticking to the 1 year unless I read something other wise.
  20. Zim came to be with hardly any spots & now her under body & legs have numerous tan to dark round spots. Vets tells me they are nothing but hyperpigmentation spots.
  21. No swelling here. Just the limp & crying from the pain I hope things go well for you. Insist on an xray. My vet wanted to hold off but I insisted.
  22. Both times I've had 2 greys into the vets for a problem visit I pretty much had to tell them what I thought it was. 1 had an abnormal Xray which I brought to a greyhound experience vet for a 2nd opinion over 1 hour away (in a blizzard) & was told the dog had OS. The 2nd problem I came to greytalk & the people here were able to diagnose what the problem was just based on the description. My vet had no clue. Unless it is an emergency I come here first before going to the vet.
  23. My experience is with 1 grey (so far) with OS. The pain for her was constant with screams of pain with any type of movement. Once diagnosed she stopped using the leg entirely. Barely could get outside to potty; never mind any type of play. I really hope everything turns out OK.
  24. I'm sorry to read this story. I am sure that the handler is devasted by this; as people have stated it was his partner. It's a terrible accident.
