  1. My vet also starting questioning low functioning thyroid in Zim. I went to Dr. Stack web site & printed out normals for greyhounds. She fell in the range. She also is skinny, anxiety ridden & very active for a grey so no signs of low functioning thyroid; no meds needed. Try to check out Dr. Stacks web site. Patty
  2. So how was the date? Glad your dog did not get any worse & is getting back to himself!!! I've cancelled a few events thinking there was something wrong with the pups when they turned out to be just fine. We all worry too much
  3. Maybe its me; your greyhounds anatomy looks the same as my two greys...I just got off the couch to check. The two of them now think I'm wacked!!! Seriously it looks "normal" to me.
  4. I agree with Batmom. They may have drawn blood from her neck & now she has a bruise under the skin. Try not to panic; maybe some warm compresses to the area.
  5. I just purchased their illness/emergency coverage at the beginning of July. I have received two confirming Email but no paper work. I now have already had to call them 2x requesting this. Not really a good way to start off.
  6. When Lexi had OS she too would pace & pant a lot. Just out of the blue. I think it's a combination of medication & pain. I'm sorry you are going through this. It's hard to watch
  7. If he is eating well, happy, playful & no diarrhea then try not to worry too much. To me that's what is most important. Maybe somebody here will post a certain brand of kibble that may help with his skin issues. Or maybe do a search on this forum. He was very skinny when I fostered him; has been gaining weight?
  8. I don't use groomers but my neighbor with two little fluffy white dogs does all the time so I will let her know. Also I live in Mass & would be happy to write my representative about passing the legislature. Does anybody know what the bill is called, what #bill & when this is going to be voted on. There are a lot of Mass people on this board & I'm sure they would help in any way they could. Patty with smelly Zim
  9. Having gone through the same thing this past February I know all too well how you feel. It hurts & many tears will be shed but in time you will know you made the right decision. You will be in my thoughts.
  10. I fostered for a few months. Zim humped every male dog that came throught the door. I just yelled to knock it off in a loud voice & it would stop. I'm glad I did not have any kids to explain this to
  11. I swear I get better medical advice from this site then at my vets. I just think they don't know much about greyhounds. This site if by far less expensive
  12. My deepest sympathy. I lost a beautiful brood only having had her 11 weeks so I know about the short time together. I too grieved like I had for 11 years. It does get better in time & you will adopt again I'm sure. Patty, Zim & Patches with Lexi in heaven
  13. I adopted an 8 year old brood who came from the racing kennel to the adoption kennel to my home. I'm pretty certain the race & adoption kennel did not put any type of tick or flea prevention on. I adopted her in 11/2006 & also never put any Frontline on (since I don't use this during the winter months in NE). She was diagnosed with cancer in 1/2007. I think it is something that nobody really knows.
  14. I would ask the vet for a Fentanyl patch in addition to the Neurontin mentioned before. The patch is changed every 3 days & will cover her until the Neurontin kicks in. It takes times to work (well at least in humans). The Fentanyl is heavy duty stuff but it seems to me it is called for. Patty
  15. 48 hours ago I noticd my new greys front leg in the back of what I would call her elbow to be swollen. She had a temp of 102 so off to the vet I went. They did xrays that were negative & told me to give her ASA 1/2 tab 2x per day. I really felt like she needed an antibiotic but the vet said no; she did not think it was indicated. It is sore to touch & feels warm to me. They also told me a temp of 102.5 is normal. Should I insist on an antibiotic? I hate to tell the vet what to do but it really looks infected to me. Any thoughts? P&P
  16. I'm glad to hear she is home. She will get stronger day by day being near her family.
  17. Lexi was diagnosed mid January of 2007 & PTS 2/10/2007. About 3 weeks which is very short; but she was not using her front leg at all & was in quite a bit of pain inspite of 2 medications. She slipped once in the snow causing more pain so I just did not want to wait any longer. I'm crying still today reading all these posts but know that you are NOT alone in this journey.
  18. I just spit my tea all over my computer. Now that is funny!!!
  19. When I first got Zim she had some sepration anxiety. Well we were out doing our daily walk when she poop & out came this thin long tan colored thing. I thought "that has to be the longest tapeworm known to mankind". Upon closer inspection it was my knee high nylone I pulled the remiander out very gently & she never new the difference. To this day I laugh out loud when I think about it. She doesn't do things like that any more.
  20. I got responses immediately. You may want to rejoin or check you junk email.
  21. When Lexi got sick with OS I had my vets office email it directly to Dr. Coutu at OSU. Your vet should be able to do the same. I also did not opt for a bone biopsy. Just heard they were very painful & the results were not going to change my treatment plan. I have the name of a very greyhound experienced vet in Mass who I got a 2nd opinion from. PM me if you want her name & number. Cry all the tears you want; its a very difficult time.
  22. Lexi weight about 65#. It think the extra Tramadol is OK but the extra Dermax might upset her stomach. I'm sorry your going through this.
  23. My deepest sympathy to her families & friends. I don't personally know her but have read about her on the L list. What I remember is the beautiful picture of all her hounds. Magnificent picture & it was obvious from 1 picture how well cared for & loved all her dogs were to her. May she rest in peace. Patty, Zim & Lexi in heaven
  24. May I ask what happened to Molly. She was such a young dog.....Many hugs to you.
  25. Zim just saw this post & wishes she could have met James....But she sure likes to see Bo on the weekly adventure walks. Happy Birthday James. Please invtie JG Electra (11/27/1998-2/10/2007) to your party.
