Grey Pup

Grey Pup (4/9)

  1. Our current hounds are both galgos. We've found them to be very similar to greyhounds. They sit, which was initially disconcerting. They are goofy, loving, and two of the best of the hounds we've had. Some galgos may have trauma from ill-treatment, but neither of ours have had that - they have been friendly, people loving dogs from the start.
  2. We use a harness with Mabel. She's very petite, and I always worry about her backing out of her martingale because of how skinny her neck is. She is not a puller particularly.
  3. These are the best traps I have found http://www.amazon.com/Kness-Mfg-102-0-019-Snap-E-Mouse/dp/B0002ZINDY They are reusable - and you can release the mouse into the garbage or a plastic bag without touching the body. I also place the traps inside a narrow cardboard box with an opening cut out (like a Ritz cracker box cut down) so they can only approach it by stepping on the trigger - plus it hides the carnage if you are squeamish and need someone else to dispose of the body.
  4. Happy Birthday, Sweetie. My Mabel especially sends kisses, as she also turns six today. And hugs to you.
  5. After Bubba's bout with pancreatitis we also went to the Natural Balance Ultra light (reduced calorie) and foundit worked well for him.

    Winslow

    So sorry. Run free, Winslow!
  7. Thank you all. I appreciate the kind thoughts from all - those who met my big boy, and those who just know how special these guys are to all of us. I'd like to share a post on a friend's blog - she does remembrence posts when a friend loses a furry member of the family. Big Bubba Boy
  8. I'm so sorry. Run free baby girl!
  9. We unexpectedly sent Bubba to the rainbow bridge an hour ago. He has had long-term neurological issues with his hind legs which have been under control since a March crisis with tramadol and prednisone. We came home from running errands today to find he had lost complete use of his hind legs, and decided with our vet, that his quality of life was not good and unlikely to improve. He was a big sweet goofy boy who had to be with his people. His racing name was Kelsos Irony and he came to us from Greyhound friends NJ just shy of 4 years old after recovering from a broken hind hock. we named him Beckett, but as soon as my son could talk he called him "Bubba" which fit him so much better. He was definitely a Bubba! We love him and miss him already. We're down to a one hound house for now, and will probably have to stay that way for a while. it's weird. Run fast and free my Bubba.
  10. No cancer!!! yay! Still no real answers - probably something neurological. We could do an MRI, but we aren't guaranteed answers from it, nor would be up for surgery. So...treating symptoms with prednisone and tramadol. So long as he is comfortable, we are happy!
  11. About 3 years ago, Bubba started limping a lot. We never figured out quite what it was, although we think it was/is neurological, but a low of prednisone has kept it under control. The past month has seen a return of the limp and some obvious pain. Not sure if it the same thing, or something new....he is getting x-rays to day to rule out (hopefully) or confirm osteo. He is almost 11 and not a great candidate for aggressive treatment for a bunch of reasons, so the results of the x-rays won't really change what we do, which is keep him comfortable and happy for as long as we can, but it will hopefully give us a better idea of what we are dealing with. So happy thoughts for my old man please!
  12. We took Mabel to see Dr. Holmberg at The Animal Eye Clinic of NJin Little Falls when she had an injury that was not healing right - she is now on long term drops due to a probable mild auto-immune issue. We were very happy with the care received.
  13. Welcome from Essex County. let me know if you would like to meet a couple of pretty local hounds!
  14. is trying to determine her sleep number.
