  1. Well, I called Omaha Vaccine and they do not have Soloxine. My vet is carrying ThyroKare so that's what we're going with for now. Thanks for the replies!
  2. Hmm, interesting! I'll have to check out Omaha Vaccine. I think I will call them before my appointment to see if they have it in stock before I have my vet write me the prescription. I would love to stay with Soloxine since it has been working all these years. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Thanks!
  3. My 11 year old, Ziggy, is due for a check up tomorrow and I need to refill his thyroid medication. He has always taken Soloxine but since that is currently not available I will need to order a substitute. I have heard from many that generic thyroid supplements, for both greyhounds and people, are not ideal but it doesn't seem like I have a choice now. So what do you recommend? if you have a hound on thyroid medication, what brand are you using? Oh, and just in case you're interested - here's a picture of the old boy on the left!
  4. My boy Jesse (in my avatar) also had a right front amp when he was six and helping him get around never occurred to me until the evening I picked him up from the hospital. To my surprise he hopped out of the hospital and right into my van like it was nothing. He never had any mobility issues so a harness was never necessary. Jesse was very physically fit and young (other than the cancer) so his surgery and recovery went really well. I hope it goes the same for you and Taylor. Sorry, I guess I'm no help.
  5. I use Drs. Foster and Smith for thyroid and heartworm meds and have always been VERY satisfied with their prices and service. I highly recommend them.
  6. Aw, poor Houstie. I'm glad to hear that he's feeling more comfortable today. Woody had the same thing happen to him a couple of years ago - only in both eyes. The eye drops from the vet made him immediately feel better and he was completely healed in a couple of days. Give Houston a big Christmas smootch from Miss Sandy!
  7. My mom used to tell me that bananas help with leg craps. Something about the potassium or something. Of course, they don't stop craps as they are happening but they can help if you are getting them often. I always assumed that was why they give bananas to racing hounds as treats.
  8. Wow, looks gruesome! Maybe a small nick on the ear or tail? Those things can bleed like crazy and when they shake it can look like a murder scene. Don't you just wish they could talk?!?! Maybe Dino was trying to make a Halloween video... I hope your beautiful boy doesn't have any more trouble.
  9. My sweet Woody earned his wings Friday night. He had bone cancer and the pain got to be too much so I had to let him go. Now my heart is broken and I miss him like crazy. Woody was one of the largest, fuzziest boys I've ever met - and I've met hundreds of greyhounds. I even had to put an extra hole in his muzzle strap because it was so hard to get a large muzzle on his head without jamming his nose into it. I got used to people - even those with several greyhounds of their own - walking up to us, looking him up and down, pausing and saying, "he's kind of... big." At the same time, he was about the sweetest. He has never met a stranger in his life. He would walk right up to a person, lean his entire body against them and gaze up directly into their eyes. I always wondered what he was thinking. It was probably just, "I love you, buddy!" God speed sweet baby. There's no more need to be scared of plastic bags or little dogs or your brothers bossing you around. Go find Uncle Tony - he'll take care of you now.

I'm so sorry to hear of Obie's passing. He was a joy to foster and I was so happy when he finally found the perfect home with you. It was obvious to see that he loved you as much as you loved him. Run free, sweet boy.
  11. Hmm, I'm not sure what he was saying but all three of my boys joined in on the pack roo when I played the video! When Rudy stopped all three of mine went right back to sleep. I can get one of mine to roo just by saying, "I ruv rooooo" - which gets the second one going. But the third one rarely joins in. The only time all three of them do a pack roo is when I'm cleaning and won't let them into the bedroom or when I'm outside cutting the lawn and they're stuck inside. Every time they do the pack roo it sounds so sad and mournful - which makes me laugh hysterically because I know just how "hard" their life is. I always assume they're telling me just how sad they are that they can't be near me.
  12. Ooh, my boys love Yummy Chummies! They had them at Costco in the spring at a great price and I'm still kicking myself for not buying more. My boys never had any problems with them. I also gave a bag to my friend and none of her four girls had problems either. Of course, they rarely got more than 1 or 2 at a time. I hope your girls' tummys feel better soon.
  13. This reminds me of a quote a friend sent me years ago. Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather a skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!" - Just substitute chicken feet for chocolate and peanut butter for wine. That being said, I know it's easier said than done. We want to keep them safe when they are in a delicate condition, but really, life is meant to be lived! Good luck with your decision.
  14. I'm so sorry for your loss. Charlie was a beautiful boy and will be missed by many.
  15. I'm so sorry to hear about Kitty. I was just thinking of Guinness the other day. With Valentine's Day this week I knew that his anniversary was near. He was a good boy and I know it was difficult to say goodbye. I wish you and your wife peace at this difficult time. God speed, Guinness and Kitty.
