  1. Good choice! I was just going to post a bill for you to see how wonderful they are but I dont need to. Jackson had surgery to remove a cancerous lump. The surgery bill was $4,100. They paid $3,700. We will always have Healthy Paws. And like Jen said, their app is awesome.
  2. Pay attention to the temperature of the surfaces you walk them on! Sidewalks, asphalt and sand all heat up FAST!
  3. Tessie and Jackson love my four year old nephew, and he wants to be very involved with them and their care. When we walked Tessie on thanksgiving, I held the leash attached to the martingale and nephew held the leash attached to the tag collar. When we walked Jackson, I held the leash attached to the harness and nephew held the leash attached to his collar. Lots of gentle petting and throwing toy for them. And lots of good treats too. They think hes a really fun tiny human who brings lots of great stuff. My SIL has a 20 lb mix whomis not good with kids. To get him use to children, hes learning that lots of good things happen when kids are near and the good things stop when kids go away. As kids approach, he gets flooded with the tastiest treat they can find. When kids back away, treats stop. They are trying to reframe his brain so that kids equal awesome stuff.
  4. IKEA just re-introduced their pet line and they have a slow feeder bowl. For $5 Id be inclined to try that one first.
  5. Tessie is currently eating from this bowl, which is on loan from the adoption group: https://www.chewy.com/outward-hound-fun-feeder-interactive/dp/113716?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=Outward%20Hound&utm_term=&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpMLOBRC9ARIsAPiGeZD-VLdWhmjTzGlc31GvjLn_wH-LAlF6C-aFwa2QVCInOyI3gTIDShIaAvhxEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#variation-Size It's been great at slowing her down. I won this bowl in a silent auction, and I'm waiting for it to arrive so I can't tell you how it is, but it's from the same company as above. https://jet.com/product/detail/41a0c432ff1045f4936f395ecd7112fc?jcmp=pla:ggl:nj_dur_gen_pet_supplies_a3:pet_supplies_dog_supplies_dog_bowls_a3:na:PLA_751164456_37510643657_pla-318963865590:na:na:na:2&code=PLA15&pid=kenshoo_int&c=751164456&is_retargeting=true&clickid=cc9119d7-45c4-4bc3-aecb-3a4311d0d4e0
  6. We called to get Tessie insured with Healthy Paws the day after we got her. We have the $100 deductible and 90% coverage on her for just under $60/mo. Jackson will be 12 in December, we pay $77/mo for him. They paid out over (I think) $8k for his cancer surgery a few years back. We'll never have pets who are not insured with Healthy Paws.
  7. I wish Tessie and Saint could have a play date. They sound so similar. Maybe it's the just-off-the-track "OMG what IS that" curiosity. Welcome home, Saint! 💕
  8. Oh, great! I just just where that is. I used to ride at Table Mountain Ranch.
  9. His markings are stunning. What a perfect lap dog you have!
  10. She's beautiful! Welcome home sweetie. I'm sorry about your pups.
  11. Are you in Denver too??? (On mobile I can't see your location). We are going to go to the monthly Bible Park walks. I think she's comfortable at home
  12. Welcome home Lola. Sounds like you've found yourself a gem of a forever home. I just adopted a black beauty myself and I'm having so much fun getting to know her.
  13. Tank you everyone! I now understand everyone who has ever remarked "black dogs are hard to photograph". She's much more gorgeous in person. I'm so head over heels in love with her already. 💕💕💕
  14. Grace and Fenway sent me a good one. 💕💕💕
  15. Jackson was very happy to see her on Saturday and seems to enjoy her company. It's pretty hard for a nearly 12 year old dog to show much enthusiasm though. The did enjoy a nice walk at the park last night.
  16. Welcome to the wonderful world of greyhounds. Your dogs are gorgeous!
  17. Hi Greytalk friends! After losing Fenway at the end of last September, my heart needed time to heal. I was finally ready for a new houndie this summer. We had a ton of travel earlier this summer but that ended in August. We put in our application with FORG (Friends of Retired Greyhounds) on Tuesday night. I spoke with someone from the group on Wednesday, who told me about one of the available dogs named Cat. I spoke with Cat's foster family on Thursday and then we took Jackson to meet her that night. The meeting went well so we arranged for Cat to come to our house on Saturday along with the president who completed the home visit. Cat (PK's Cat Island) is now Tessie and without jinxing it, she's just perfect so far. Zero accidents, minimal whining, a great eater, walks perfectly on leash....we couldn't ask for a better dog. Especially from a greyhound who ran her last race in Florida on July 14th. She's a champion racer, with 16 wins in 90 races. She will turn four in December. Welcome home, Tessie. We love you so much already. Name inspiration (Go Sox!): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tessie#Dropkick_Murphys_version First family photo Around here, we celebrate Gotcha Day with cheeseburgers
  18. Can you? Yes. Is it advised? No! It's gross. Really really gross. Techs do not make enough money for all the ick they have to put up with.
  19. $350 for all that is not steep. I hope you can get it under control for him very soon!
  20. Just checking in for a Brin update. I hope you are both doing well!
  21. I'm sorry for your loss. Run free, Leia.
  22. Grace trained him to wait for treats, not me. She was the most wonderful sister to him. Showed him how to be a good dog (really, I can't take any of the credit). She was so sweet with him even when she would have be just fine as an only dog. That pair was something else. As for Uncle Geoff/Geoffy...man did they love each other. Geoff was the last person Fenway wagged his tail for. He came over to say goodbye before we headed off to the vet. I have countless photos of them squished in our overstuffed chair, both of them loving it. Makes me chuckle thinking of the two of them together. I had asked him to help his boys out this year in the playoffs. In typical greyhound fashion, it seems he fell asleep on the job. Monster was on the list of possible names for that puppy. Along with Yawkee, Yaz, and Manny. I always thought I'd get a girl pup and name her Tessie, too. Here's another one I cherish too. I can truly say he lived such a full and joyful life. He didn't have anything left on his bucket list, he really got to complete it all. He had traveled internationally (twice to Vancouver) and spent time on beaches in Washington, Oregon and California.
  23. They are amazing! We've had similar experiences with both boys. They were incredible when we had surgery to remove a cancerous lump on Jackson. Checks came fast. I, too, received the sympathy card. Additionally when I called to tell them Fenway had passed they immediately refunded the unused portion of that months fee, stopped future charges, and told me if there was a final claim I needed to file to take my time. They were truly wonderful.
