  1. Northstar Vet hospital is near Trenton Nj at exit 7 off route 195. They are open 24 hours and have lots of greyhound experience.
  2. Can you crush it and mix it into a small glob of peanut butter? Stick the glob on the roof of her mouth, and let her mouth it until it goes down.
  3. Preventic collars, but can't be used if they would come in contact with cats.
  4. My sweet broodmom, Gigi, went to join her sister yesterday! I adopted two brood littermates in February 2013. We lost Misty, Vans Misty Morn, to a brain tumor last year. Gigi continued to romp and play with the other Greyhounds in the house, with no health issues other than some arthritis in her back end. She developed five corns a few months ago, but was ok with them at first. Over the summer she limped a bit, off and on, as we worked to get rid of those corns. She would go for weeks at a time with no limp. Last month she started favoring her rear leg almost everyday, and then stopped putting weight on it. X-rays revealed osteo. We were able to manage her pain for a bit, but it got out of control a few days ago. She had a great day on Thursday, and I had hopes that she could stay longer. She was able to get up on her own, get up/down the ramp, pee without falling, and pay attention to the other dogs. She even sought me out for attention and put her head in my lap! It all went downhill after that, so I had the vet come out to set her free of pain. I hate cancer! She was my third osteo dog. Since my other two were diagnosed at 8 and 9, and she had some impressive corns, I wasn't even thinking osteo until she became non weight bearing. At that point, I knew exactly what I was going to see on those X-rays. I let her go less than two weeks after diagnosis. Hug your hounds! Consider adopting a senior or a broodmom! Love ya, Gigi. Say hi to your sister for me! Would someone please update her greyhound data page with her date of death? Thanks!
  5. I'm so sorry! I know how much it hurts to do the right thing for them. Hugs!
  6. Hope you get more time together. One of my dogs stopped eating, and was wasting away in front of me from other issues. At the end, she would eat scrambled eggs, raw burgers, some cheese, and vanilla ensure. I had the bright idea of using vanilla ensure to make the scrambled eggs. Don't ever try that. She loved it, but I gagged, and eventually threw up while feeding it to her. Hugs to you! The end is always so hard!
  7. I started using Glocoflex 3 chews with my twelve year old tripod. My friend's old lab showed great improvement on it. Too early to tell here, nut I was amazed at the difference in her old girl.
  8. I've had twelve year old Gigi for over three years. She won't get in any vehicle. I walk/run her to the opening, but she stops two feet away. I drag/push/walk her closer, put her front feet up, lift her back legs high and shove her forward. She is ok once inside. I have tried my friend's lower vehicle, but she does the same thing. I've had eleven greys, and she is the only one to do this. I recently had her walk with another dog, walk up to the car, but refuse to follow him in. I've tried all the suggestions above, and just do it her way.
  9. I agree! That's a lot of poop! Mine poop two, maybe three times a day! Could be the beet pulp, but could also be the food! Did the frequency of poops increase soon after you switched food? Try cutting out the beet pulp, and see if it improves. If not, try changing the good. My dogs all did well on Kirkland, but some dogs do not. Good luck!
  10. Hope all is well by this time. You should take a video to show your vet, and to document the history when your dog does something that concerns you. Are you sure it wasn't just an episode of reverse sneezing?
  11. Mine think it's a big blue water dish on the deck!
  12. I have had several older dogs who wouldn't eat much. They all loved vanilla ensure.
  13. Congrats! Enjoy! Did he come with a name?
