macoduck
Allen got worse before he got better. Bruising spread to his groin. His right leg swelled up really bad, though it didn't seem to bother him much. His man boobs got bigger. He has completed his course of Amicar. The swelling in his leg is starting to go, though it varies in size during the day. I have been massaging it. The bruising on his lower chest is nearly gone and the bruising near his groin is beginning to fade. He developed a lumpy thing on his upper ribs in a direct line down from the chip insertion site. Dr Couto suspected it may be a seroma and to have it drained. Since it was warm to the touch he suggested antibiotics. I was able to get in at my vet's today. She tried 2 different gauge needles but was unable to drain any fluid. She suspects it may be blood clots. We are to use warm compresses and she's started him on antibiotics. The microchip remained in its original location. Hopefully there should be no new developments. greysmom
Whiskey got one of those on his side after Lilly whacked into him with her muzzle. It did eventually go down without any problems. {{{smooch}}} that sweetie for me! NeylasMom
Oh my gosh, what an ordeal from what was supposed to be a simple microchip insertion. That bruising is insane. So sorry for you and Allen. Hope he is back to normal asap! One thing you might think about is Yunnan Baiyao. It's a chinese herbal supplement meant to address bleeding. Violet had a weird reaction after her first dental where she was peeing blood clots after she woke up so our veterinary dentist consulted with an internal medicine specialist before her last dental to try to prevent those issues from happening again. She was put on Tranexamic Acid (basically the same as Amicar, it was just easier/cheaper for us to get) and Yunnan Baiyao 2 days before her procedure and kept on them for a few days after. We luckily did not have issues. The dose was 1 capsule every 12 hours. It's a can't hurt, might help thing imo. This looks like the product we used. I bought it on Amazon, but don't see it there now. macoduck
Jen, thanks for tip on the Yunnan Baiyao. I'll do some reading up on that. I had just enough Amicar on hand but now have the TA just in case something else starts bleeding. And no anesthesia in his future since he had hyperthermia twice during a dental and and an hour later during a panic attack. Spiked to 109.1 ! Allen is tolerating the moist hot compresses. Cheese therapy helps too.
