Guest MyCody Posted July 28, 2012 Share Posted July 28, 2012 We had noticed that Leah had lost some weight and sure enough, five pounds. Her vet did blood work, a urinalysis and blood pressure. She had a lot of protein in her urine and her blood pressure was an astounding 240, he said normal is 160. He put her on blood pressure meds and when we took her back the next day, yesterday, her pressure was way down. He was so happy as of course, we were. She is a staff favorite and they all make a fuss over her when she is there. She is also having an ultrasound on Tuesday of her kidneys and heart, so please if you could say a little prayer we would be grateful. If that comes back high you might want to touch base with Dr Couto-he will be able to tell you if you should start a daily low dose aspirin. When you have protein losing neuropathy (glomerulonephritis) not only is your hound losing protein she will also lose antithrombin 3 (an anti clotting factor). She was put on 10mg of amlodipine daily and 5mg of benazepril hcl 2x daily. She had gotten two doses when she was rechecked and it had worked so well, he stopped the benazepril. Vet even checked the calorie content of this food as we had switched when TOTW was recalled and this food has more calories, plus JJ hasn't lost any weight and eats the same thing.
