Louie & Falco

My girlfriend and I brought home Louie (f/k/a Ford, Tyville Rippled) back in August.

Louie had done 10 races before breaking his leg. While recovering from the break, he spent some time at the house of the woman who runs the adoption agency. He soon went into another foster home for about 2 months before we adopted him. The woman fostering him cried a bit when she learned we would be adopting him, as she didn't want to see him go.

Louie was probably the most chill dog I had ever met in my life. He just didn't seem to care about anything, a trait I actually admired. We could put food down on the coffee table and leave the room, and when we came back, Louie would still be lying on the ground next to the table. We stole his name from the show of the same name.

A few weeks after we brought him home, we noticed his brother and littermate was now up for adoption from the same agency. My girlfriend pressured convinced me to fill out an application to get him. We went to the kennel up in Wisconsin to meet him and a number of other dogs; Louie unsurprisingly didn't care too much about any of them. Because we had lucked out with such a well-behaved dog, we decided to stick with the same gene pool and get his brother.

So six weeks after Louie came to our home, his brother Falco (f/k/a Falcon, Tyville Sawbuck) followed suit. We both didn't like the name given by the adoption agency "Falcon," so I lopped off the "n" to have him share the name of a character from a video game I've never played but of which I am aware, apparently. (Even though my girlfriend didn't like the name, she had nixed my super-cool names of "Gozer," "Pizza Party," and "Mecha-Godzilla" for our first hound, so she owed me. Or something.)

Falco seemingly cares more about people. My girlfriend's coworkers at a veterinary hospital suggested we name him "McLouie" for "More Cuddly Louie." Even if it's not in a comfortable spot, he'll lie down in whatever room people are stationed in; we ended up putting a dog bed in the kitchen so he could rest on something while we cooked/washed dishes.

One of his only negative characteristics is he absolutely loves to destroy toys; all of the toys surrounding Louie in the picture above are now dead. We got him some of those "indestructible" ones, but he doesn't seem as interested if he can't destroy it.

Even if it does mean I have to wake up 45 minutes earlier to take them out in the cold for a walk, having these dogs makes me extremely happy (and dopey-looking, apparently).

One thing I forgot to add: right before we brought Falco home, we learned that a good chunk of Louie's tail was pretty much already dead from some unknown accident; we had to amputate about half the tail. Even though it's sad, it does make it a lot easier to tell them apart from behind.

Welcome! What cute and handsome boys. Look forward to many more pics and posts on them. :) Great story!

I learned a few weeks ago that a coworker of mine just got a dog and named him Gozer. While this drops my desire to name one of my dogs that, it at least validates my suggestion as being not 100% crazy. I'll give a huge pat on the back to the first person I meet with a dog named "Pizza Party."

Welcome to another Chicago adopter- did you get them from Greyhounds Only? I got my two from Regap of Illnois. Have hung out at a few Greyhound Only events- all greyhound people are cool. Saw a bunch of them at the Shamrock Louisville event in July. I think it would be fun to have brothers or sisters. One of my friends has sisters- same parents but from different litters.

Your boys are beautiful, have fun! Maybe I'll see you around sometime. Janice, Luka and Peace from the far South Side of Chicago.
