RileysLegacy
Puzz saw my wonderful vet. She cleaned it out & gave him an injectable antibiotic. She is sending some of the goop to get cultured bc she is worried that it seems to be resistant to abx. She saw some new pockets of puss and his whole thigh/butt cheek is infected. I hope this will start getting better soon I was so thankful that his injuries were not worse but I had no idea this could still be going on 6 weeks later... tbhounds
Gak- there are some bugs out there like mrsa- good thing you have a culture pending. The culture will determine which antibiotic the bug is sensitive to. Gezz, that's a bummer-- don't worry- it will heal in time.
RileysLegacy
Thanks guys! I know this is minor compared to what some of the other pups here are going through...but I really appreciate the feedback & support. Btw his new nickname is Pussle
Remolacha
I hope the culture can get him on the right ABs, that should fix him right up!
kudzu
Infections that linger or spread despite proper treatment are not "minor" but certainly should be quite treatable with results from the culture. Some nicknames, like Pussle, shouldn't stick. Puzzle is much cuter. Good luck!

Xan
Yikes yuck and owey! Poor Puzzle. What a trooper, to let you deal with this so much! I am on the edge of my seat now, hoping for good news of a specific bug that just needs the right antibiotic for speedy healing! *crossing fingers and chanting!!* (I'm also reliving all the abscess fun I had with one of my goats, who regularly got them after her yearly vaccinations. At least those were "sterile abscesses", and thank goodness I don't get grossed out too easily! ) Quote My Inspirations: Grey Pogo, borzoi Katie, Meep the cat, AND MY BELOVED DH!!!Missing Rowdy, Coco, Brilly, Happy and Wabi. RileysLegacy
True story, I once fainted at the vet when one of my dogs was getting a wound cleaned. So now my vet always calls a tech for any procedure & makes me sit down She was very impressed w/ my ability to deal w/this situation & said maybe it happened to toughen me up Should have the culture results by Friday. He's looking about the same today.
Xan
Checking in. How's he looking now? Keeping my fingers crossed for a simple fix!! RileysLegacy
No nasty results from the culture So he should heal in time. It's definitely looking better - healing and not draining much - but i can still feel some pockets in his thigh. I am keeping a close eye on it and will take him back to the vet if needed, but hopefully I won't have to. Thanks again for all the comments

XTRAWLD
I had no idea puncture wounds from a month ago would look like that. Glad it's finally healing up. Guest verthib
I hope something is being done to the owner of the little menaces that did this to your poor dogs? It's unacceptable. I'd make that owner pay the bet bills. *vet
RileysLegacy
ugh soo frustrated! Puzz finally seemed to be healing, then today a hole opened up, it's oozing again & looking a bit red I'm taking him to get another antibiotic shot tomorrow. the new hole is by my finger. his whole sad looking leg Edited November 29, 2011 by RileysLegacy
tbhounds
Is he still taking oral antibiotics?? If not it might be time to culture this. Also, at this point your vet might suggest placing a drain . Keep us posted!
RileysLegacy
No more oral antibiotics, the vet had me stop them when he got the last shot. They sent out a culture at that time, and It didn't grow anything nasty We have been trying to avoid a drain, but maybe it is time... racindog
Enough is enough. Poor Puzz! Its time to be well. Praying for his rapid recovery. For Puzz:
RileysLegacy
Thank you! It looks a little worse today :( I hope this new antibiotic shot will do the trick. The last one did seem to help quite a bit.
Xan
Argh, Lucy! Poor Puzzle. Is he at all immune-compromised, or could he be? Why would this be not healing?? I hope nothing else has gotten in there since the last culture. So frustrating for you all! Sending gentle hugs, and good strong healing chanting!!! RileysLegacy
Thanks Xan. He's not immune compromised as far as I know. He's always been really healthy, though he does stress out so much that he makes himself sick from time to time. He would be considered a major spook if he were a greyhound. Anyway, he got his shot and the tech told me to come back for another one in 2 weeks. My vet did not see him but nobody seemed too concerned. I just can't believe this is still going on. I found this picture I took the day he was bitten, I can't believe that this small wound has turned into such a nighmare and has cost me almost $800! tbhounds
Was it a Convenia injection? Kinda surprised that at this point your vet isn't treating more aggressively .
RileysLegacy
Yes Convenia. Do you guys think I should get a second opinion? I REALLY love my vet but will definitely do so if needed...
