Thinking about you both too, and wondering how things went. Hoping for a positive update.

We got a "wait and see" diagnosis with Mira. She has 2 inflamed lymph nodes in that leg and the vet was feeling the lump saying that maybe it's a foreign object under the skin. So he put her on antibiotics and told us to watch the lump and if it got any bigger to bring her right in. I'm hoping that's the case, but I'm not sold on it, doesn't make any sense to me seeing as she hasn't had any cuts on her hind legs that anything would have gotten in there. It wouldn't be the first time he has given us a strange diagnosis that ended up to be wrong and something more obvious and straight forward. We will see, I hope he's right.

As long as she continues to not show any lameness on the leg, I can sit tight.

Might be worth getting a second opinion Brie. Keeping your sweet girlie in my thoughts.

I agree. Especially since it doesn't make sense to you.

I agree, a second opinion is the best bet.

She's too precious not to get a second opinion.

What could that be, "a foreign object under the skin"? That puzzles me too.

You'd be amazed the kinds of things we find. A more common place is in the neck from dogs that like sticks a little too much. They carry them around and if it's too big they get it caught on the ground or on a tree or something causing it to jam. The end up with pieces of stick migrating around causing major problems. X-rays don't show much usually because the wood shows up the same shade as soft tissue. We had one dog that had that happen and a year later they went back in for a SECOND explore (they did one a year ago when this all started) and they finally found a small shard of wood. Turns out that dog likes to carry sticks around.

Not saying Mira has a sliver in her leg. But really, you'd be amazing at how things can penetrate without leaving a gaping wound. Grass awns like to do weird things too.
