Guest KatJon
Well, here's Rhythm! We just got him on Friday, and he's already settling in really well! He was a prison doggie and his handler there did a great job training him. I think he is already sick of my picture taking... Can't resist these eyes! New stuffies! Love his curly tail Here's me with Rhythm on our first trip to the park!

joejoesmom
Hi from Columbus! Welcome to the Team Greyhound family. I was reading about Rhythm's separation anxiety in another thread. I know that Team Greyhound wants their hounds to be happy -- and the hounds can't be happy if their owners aren't. Have you talked with your adoption rep (probably Don?). At least let them know that you are having issues. He might be able to offer some additional advice. Try the alone training for at least a month if you can handle it. It sometimes takes a while for them to get used to a life without all of the other dogs in the kennel and the constant companionship of the prison training environment. The worst case scenario is that Team Greyhound takes Rhythm back (don't worry, he will find a good home) and you try a different dog. It might be that Rhythm needs to be in a home with another greyhound. We have had the same dog show separation anxiety in one home and none in another home -- it is very hard to predict. I have had some success with a CD called "Through a Dog's Ear" with my thunderphobic greyhound. It isn't a miracle but it does help. It is essentially very simply arranged classical piano with a slow, rhythmic beat. Just set it to play repeatedly. It is available for purchase on the web. Sometimes a thundershirt might help (didn't for my Joe). If you buy it at a local pet store, returning it is easy. The manufacturer has a money back guarantee. PetPeople carries them -- not sure about the big chains. Try freezing the peanut butter kong to make it last longer (be sure to keep the little hole at the small end open, I fill it and use a straw to keep a hole through the middle--of course remove the straw before giving it to your dog. The hole helps prevent a suction from forming which could hurt the dogs tongue). If he seems to do better out of the crate, but you are concerned about him chewing or destroying things, you can try keeping his muzzle on. Jane edited to add: I just adore his curly tail! Guest bethac
Rhythm is such a handsome boy - those eyes are gorgeous. Love seeing the pictures of him. I hope his SA is getting better every day.
Guest avadogner
Gorgeous houndie there! I love how his tail curls a little extra too. He is beautiful! Hang in there with the SA training. It can take a few months for him to get comfortable with his new life. Augie still has moments where he misses the old greyhound frat house. Our house is sometimes a little too quiet for him despite the firestation close by. -alicia

Guest Mom2Shiloh
His racing name was "WJS Sweet Rhythm" I KNEW it -- he's a Kiowa Sweet Trey grandson -- he's got the same eyes as my big red boy, Bravo!!! Oh he is Gorgeous. Does someone want to post the Kathleen Gilley article again??? It's not a 'how to' for separation anxiety -- but I think it is the best article in the world for explaining how they Feel coming into a home for the first time-- and that, in itself, is priceless. Edited to say Congratulations!! Edited October 20, 2011 by Mom2Shiloh
