Remolacha
I am so sorry not only cancer, but a weird one The only food advice I have is, the stinkier the better, green tripe and Bill's shaky cheese (aka Parmesan cheese) are two things that worked for me. Houndtime
I am so sorry to read Stella's diagnosis. When Brandy was sick, I used to put gravy on her food. Also, she would eat sardines, vienna sausage and tuna fish in oil. TheFullHouse
I'm so sorry Heather. After Emmy's Cushings diagnosis, I fed her anything I could get her to eat. I didn't care what it was. 3greytjoys
I'm so very sorry about Stella's diagnosis. I like the layman's content on the following site of the more common canine and feline cancers with which we've dealt. The cystadenocarcinoma cancer they have listed is "renal cystadenocarcinoma." Might be different since you didn't mention renal(?), but might be something to ask the oncologist. If you have any interest in reading it, please continue scrolling and reading through the full page of text (skip ads in the middle). Click on next pages at page bottom. NeylasMom
No advice whatsoever, just some non-touchy feely hugs for you and good thoughts for sweet Stella. greymomnc
Heather, I am so sorry to read about Stella. I don't have any experience with this type of cancer. The late Miss Magic had kidney disease and developed pancreatitis. She spent several days in ICU at NCSU. After her pancreatic values came back down she would not eat. Her kidneys had begun to shut down completely. However, the one food she did show some interest in and would eat a tiny amount of was cat food. After she came home, she still would not eat. I thought perhaps all of the acid in her stomach was causing her to not eat. I was hopeful that getting some food in her stomach would help to neutralize the stomach acid, so the vet agreed to let us try force feeding a couple of times. I liquified chicken, yogurt etc. in a blender and used a syringe used for horse injections. When she opened her mouth to investigate the syringe, I would gently squirt the mixture towards the back of her tongue. Sending prayers and healing thoughts for Stella. Note to others reading this: Force feeding is a last resort ONLY to be done after approval from your vet.

Guest KennelMom
Thanks for the thoughts and advice, everyone. I'll keep you posted on Stella. After we meet with the oncologist and have the ultrasound done (assuming he wants one, but I'm pretty sure he will), I'll email all the info to Dr. C. We can't start chemo until her foot is healed anyway. The surgeon said probably another 2 weeks.

greysmom
FYI - OSU is now only accepting consultation requests through the contact form on it's website, not through Dr Couto's personal email. OSU Greyhound Wellness Program They are very responsive and nice to work with, and have gotten back to us fairly quickly each time I've contacted them. If you can, have the ultrasound put in a digital format so you can send it to them over the internet. Also any path reports and xrays. {{{{HUGS}}}} Quote Chris - Mom to: Felicity (DeLand), and Andi (Braska Pandora) siggy by Chris Harper, on Flickr Angels: Libby (Everlast), Dorie (Dog Gone Holly), Dude (TNJ VooDoo), Copper (Kid's Copper), Cash (GSI Payncash), Toni (LPH Cry Baby), Whiskey (KT's Phys Ed), Atom, Lilly

queenwinniesmom
I'm not familiar with that kind of cancer---it seems like there are so many different types. Very discouraging. This time is so difficult as you try to get a handle on things and decide what course of treatment is best and most realistic. You know your girl so well, and know what is right for her. Sending lots of prayers and white light out to you and Stella. Guest KennelMom
I don't eat grains myself, so we don't keep a lot of that stuff in the house. today I boiled her some 85% beef with sweet potato and quinoa...she ate a LOT of it, so we'll see how long that meets her approval. Tomorrow we meet with the oncologist and she'll have a stim test done to check her cortisol levels.

Let's hope the plump lymph node in her groin is limited to being reactive from the surgery. Please keep us posted. Good luck getting some weight put back on her and getting her surged area healed.
