Only seems like yesterday I stumbled across Heather's posting in Off Topic about this Chocolate Lab they were trying to find the right home for. We had no intentions of getting a Lab - but something spoke to me - and I just knew he would love what we could offer him. My DH met Heather halfway in WV and Casey came into our lives July 2008. Casey declined very recently and I made the decision to help him to the bridge on Thursday. I was a particularly tough decision whether to pursue treatment or not, but we didn't want him to suffer any more or die alone in a vet facility, he was just too weak, so our vet gave him a very peaceful and dignified send off. I hugged him on the floor till he breathed his last soft breath. He was so 'young at heart' and fit that I thought he'd live forever, his time with us seems far too short. But I kept forgetting he was almost 13, and I'm just thankful he was still fully active until the last week or so. It is too eerily quiet round here now with just our hounds, I miss my old bear so much. He was the just the best buddy at hanging out while we did work in our field or garden. I think Case has shown us we need a Lab in our lives. Thanks Heather and Ken, I am so glad you connected us with Case, its been an honor to have him here. Casey was so blessed to have been owned and loved and treasured by two wonderful families in his lifetime. Thank you so much for giving Casey such a wonderful retirement home My heart hurts for you And, yes, he was a truly remarkable dog. I feel honored to have shared time with him.
