Guest StriderDog
Sunday morning update: Strider is still very wobbly, but no worse than before - he knows when his toes are knuckled under and he rights them and he is able to get up from a laying position without assistance. The fact that he can walk at all is good - that means that there's approximately a 60% chance that he'll get better without surgery and should surgery be necessary in the future, a good prognosis for that. The vet said to keep him quiet, but not necessarily strict crate confinement, so we're carrying him up and down the stairs and keeping him leashed in the yard for pottying. We have a townhouse, so he's pretty much confined on the main level in the 12' x 12' living room area. None of this jives with Strider's sense of dignity and he's tired of all of it already. He's drinking normally but doesn't have too much of an appetite for kibble - people food is still eaten, but skeptically, since pills are often hidden in such goodies. We're guardedly hopeful - I fluctuate wildly from complete denial (while he's laying down, it looks like nothing has changed!) to hysterical tears when I think about the "what if's" and the "never again's." The vet said if it were going to take a turn for the worse, it would do so quickly, so while we're not totally out of the woods yet, it looks like we're going to be going down the long and gradual recovery road. Patsy
Whahoooooooooooo! Strider, remember it's one mark of a dignified gentleman to accept help when it makes your helpers feel better to do so.
