duncan41
...............but is she SICK? With blood test results like that, she should be really sick! Something's not right. Repeat the BUN & Creatinine, if they are the same, start branching out; titers, urine culture, specific gravity. Sending prayers that this was a mistake or a momentary spike due to the surgery. Rickiesmom
Just got the evening update - it's a mixed bag. I don't have the lab report (will get that e-mailed tomorrow) but her BUN has come down a bit to 59 and her Creatinine is down to 463 which is a real improvement. Phosphorus also coming down, don't have the number. She is continuing to eat in small amounts which is positive. The x-rays showed an unusual amount of gas in the stomach as well as the intestine. Enough that they are considering a barium series. I have mixed feelings about this as this doesn't seem to have much relationship to the kidneys but who knows. Because TBDs are uncommon here they do not have the snap test at the clinic, but will ask Antech to do it, and then follow through if it shows anything. The Lepto results take a couple of days so no news there yet.

Blaidd49
If they need to sedate to do a barium I would hold off pending additional results, especially if she is taking nourishment and values are showing some improvement I would think the last thing this girl needs is another anaesthetic (abdominal gas can be a direct result of anaesthesia - been there done that) Pam Just got the evening update - it's a mixed bag. Rickiesmom
Jaynie is now at the e-vet for the weekend. Regular vet called at around 11PM Friday to say there was blood coming out of her IV line. He thought the port was leaky and said he would fix that, but as no one was going to be at the clinic the rest of the night, and only short hours the rest of the weekend, we agreed she should be moved. She will receive supportive care at the e-vet until Monday when she will see an internal medicine specialist at 10:45 (the e-vet clinic functions also as a specialty clinic during the week). Guest GreysAndMoreGreys
JMHO and I could very well be wrong but I would expect her lvls to be off since she hasn't been eating much or drinking either. For whatever reason she's taking the anesthesia really really hard I know when I took one of my hounds in for a surgery and they did not get food or water for x amount of hours before that her lvls were off. I asked about the fact that she was fasted and if that would make a difference and was told yes. Hopefully some fluids and small snacks and she will be bouncing back and ready to come home on Monday. for you

HopeForHounds
Mary was taking her some home cooked food this afternoon. Dr Couto has also been in touch and will consult with the specialist who will see Jaynie on Monday. I don't know if you all realize, but in the middle of this Mary has been uploading the over 170 items into Alisha's auction software for the Miss Nellie Auction. That is a huge undertaking and had to be very difficult to focus on with this medical crisis going on.
