I believe they sell the BalanceIt at Angel Memorial in Boston also -- you can call and check.

I would suggest that you make an appointment with the nutritionist at Angel. She can put together a diet and if there are issues later, you can have her adjust it.

Depending on what you're cooking, you don't need a gigantic pot. Zema eats beef; if I'm stovetopping hers, I can do 3-4 days in a stewpot (or Dutch oven) sized pot. Sometimes I don't cook batches but freeze raw portions and microwave as needed (allowing time to cool before serving). When feeding meat plus other stuff -- for allergy purposes, I usually start out cooking each thing separately and then assembling the meal when feeding. That way if something produces a bad response, I can eliminate it from future meals without throwing stuff out.

I just saw this, glad he's already feeling better. My vote is for trying home-cooked too. Sounds like you have a really great resource nearby (Angel). I think you would more than make up the cost of that visit in the savings of doing your own food instead of buying the I/D. That's shockingly expensive!

Thanks everyone! Sounds like a trip to Boston is in order. I'm going to keep him on the I/D for another month, then see about speaking with a nutritionist. . . . .(still have to get MY medical bills paid off  )

And thanks for all the cooking tips! Being a vegetarian, I am def. a novice :blush
