Collars hang quietly by the door waiting to adorn your soft, snowy white neck. The bed you slept in stays undisturbed with a whisper of your outline forever etched. Nose prints tattooed on the front window where you watched expectantly for me to come home reminds me of your love for me. A partially eaten cookie lays close by your dish because you were too weak to finish it. The kids in the neighborhood still look for you and ask where you are. I tell them that you’ve taken your journey to a magical place where the sun is warm and the air is sweet. I try to imagine you there, playing and romping with the others before you. Endless zoomies, tender blades of grass to graze on and lush fields as far as the eye can see. You wear my heart around your neck instead of a collar now, sweet girl. I had so hoped to meet Kylie at GIG, and it was not to be. Neither of us made it there. My heart breaks for you, Anne. Kylie and your Mouse both.Such big losses for you.
